We study the Euclidean gravitational path integral computing the Renyi entropy and analyze its behavior under small variations. We argue that, in Einstein gravity, the extremality condition can be understood from the variational principle at the level of the action, without having to solve explicitly the equations of motion. This set-up is then generalized to arbitrary theories of gravity, where we show that the respective entanglement entropy functional needs to be extremized. Read More

How to develop slim and accurate deep neural networks has become crucial for real- world applications, especially for those employed in embedded systems. Though previous work along this research line has shown some promising results, most existing methods either fail to significantly compress a well-trained deep network or require a heavy retraining process for the pruned deep network to re-boost its prediction performance. In this paper, we propose a new layer-wise pruning method for deep neural networks. Read More

As a discriminative method of one-shot learning, Siamese deep network allows recognizing an object from a single exemplar with the same class label. However, it does not take the advantage of the underlying structure and relationship among a multitude of instances since it only relies on pairs of instances for training. In this paper, we propose a quadruplet deep network to examine the potential connections among the training instances, aiming to achieve a more powerful representation. Read More

Many data management applications require integrating information from multiple sources. The sources may not be accurate and provide erroneous values. We thus have to identify the true values from conflicting observations made by the sources. Read More

We study experimental background reconstruction methods for the measurement of $D-\overline{D}$ correlation using a PYTHIA simulation. Like-sign and side-band background methods that are widely used in the experimental measurements of single $D$-meson production yields were deployed for the correlation background study. It is found that the like-sign method which well describes the combinatorial background of single $D^{0}$ meson yields fails to reproduce the correlated background in the $D^{0}-\overline{D^{0}}$ correlation measurement, while the side-band background method yields a good description of the background for both the single $D^0$ yields and of the correlated background of the $D^{0}-\overline{D^{0}}$ correlation measurement. Research and development on the next generation wireless systems, namely 5G, has experienced explosive growth in recent years. In the physical layer (PHY), the massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) technique and the use of high GHz frequency bands are two promising trends for adoption. Millimeter-wave (mmWave) bands such as 28 GHz, 38 GHz, 64 GHz and 71 GHz which were previously considered not suitable for commercial cellular networks, will play an important role in 5G. Read More

In a supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model(SM) where baryon and lepton numbers are local gauge symmetries (BLMSSM), we investigate the charged lepton flavor violating (CLFV) processes $Z\rightarrow l_i^{\pm}l_j^{\mp}$ after introducing the new gauginos and the right-handed neutrinos. In this model, the branching ratios of $Z\rightarrow l_i^{\pm}l_j^{\mp}$ are around ($10^{-8}\sim10^{-10}$), which approach the present experimental upper bounds. We hope that the branching ratios for these CLFV processes can be detected in the near future. Read More

An energy efficient ultra-wideband (UWB) transmitter based on the novel transmitted reference pulse cluster (TRPC) modulation scheme is presented. The TRPC-UWB transmitter integrates, namely, wideband active baluns, wideband I-Q modulator based up-conversion mixer, and differential to single-ended converter. The integrated circuits of TRPC-UWB front end is designed and implemented in the 130-nm CMOS process technology. Read More

We report the success in introducing Mn into (Li1-xFex)OHFe1-ySe superconducting crystals by applying two different hydrothermal routes, ion exchange (1-Step) and ion release/introduction (2-Step). The micro-region x-ray diffraction and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy analyses indicate that the Mn has been doped into the lattice, and its content in the 1-Step fabricated sample is higher than that in the 2-Step one. Magnetic susceptibility and electric transport properties reveal that Mn doping influences little on the superconducting transition, regardless of 1-Step or 2-Step routes. Read More

In this paper, we present a novel and general network structure towards accelerating the inference process of convolutional neural networks, which is more complicated in network structure yet with less inference complexity. The core idea is to equip each original convolutional layer with another low-cost collaborative layer (LCCL), and the element-wise multiplication of the ReLU outputs of these two parallel layers produces the layer-wise output. The combined layer is potentially more discriminative than the original convolutional layer, and its inference is faster for two reasons: 1) the zero cells of the LCCL feature maps will remain zero after element-wise multiplication, and thus it is safe to skip the calculation of the corresponding high-cost convolution in the original convolutional layer, 2) LCCL is very fast if it is implemented as a 1*1 convolution or only a single filter shared by all channels. The STAR Collaboration reports on the photoproduction of $\pi^+\pi^-$ pairs in gold-gold collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 200 GeV/nucleon-pair. These pion pairs are produced when a nearly-real photon emitted by one ion scatters from the other ion. We fit the $\pi^+\pi^-$ invariant mass spectrum with a combination of $\rho$ and $\omega$ resonances and a direct $\pi^+\pi^-$ continuum. Read More

We present measurements of three-particle correlations for various harmonics in Au+Au collisions at energies ranging from $\sqrt{s_{{\rm NN}}}=7.7$ to 200 GeV using the STAR detector. The quantity $\langle\cos(m\phi_1+n\phi_2-(m+n)\phi_3)\rangle$ is evaluated as a function of $\sqrt{s_{{\rm NN}}}$, collision centrality, transverse momentum, $p_T$, pseudo-rapidity difference, $\Delta\eta$, and harmonics ($m$ and $n$). We present three-particle mixed-harmonic correlations $\langle \cos (m\phi_1 + n\phi_2 - (m+n) \phi_3)\rangle$ for charged particles in $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$200 GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC. These measurements provide information on the three-dimensional structure of the initial collision zone and are important for constraining models of a subsequent low-viscosity quark-gluon plasma expansion phase. We find evidence for correlations between the first, second and third harmonics predicted as a consequence of fluctuations in the initial state. Read More

We report the first measurement of the elliptic anisotropy ($v_2$) of the charm meson $D^0$ at mid-rapidity ($|y|$\,$<$\,1) in Au+Au collisions at \sNN = 200\,GeV. The measurement was conducted by the STAR experiment at RHIC utilizing a new high-resolution silicon tracker. The measured $D^0$ $v_2$ in 0--80\% centrality Au+Au collisions can be described by a viscous hydrodynamic calculation for transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) less than 4\,GeV/$c$. Read More

We propose a novel hierarchical online intrusion detection system (HOIDS) for supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) networks based on machine learning algorithms. By utilizing the server-client topology while keeping clients distributed for global protection, high detection rate is achieved with minimum network impact. We implement accurate models of normal-abnormal binary detection and multi-attack identification based on logistic regression and quasi-Newton optimization algorithm using the Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno approach. Effective information analysis generally boils down to properly identifying the structure or geometry of the data, which is often represented by a graph. In some applications, this structure may be partly determined by design constraints or pre-determined sensing arrangements, like in road transportation networks for example. In general though, the data structure is not readily available and becomes pretty difficult to define. Read More

In this paper, we consider the non-spectral problem for the planar self-affine measures $\mu_{M,D}$ generated by an expanding integer matrix $M\in M_2(\mathbb{Z})$ and a finite digit set $D\subset\mathbb{Z}^2$. Let $p\geq2$ be a positive integer, $E_p^2:=\frac{1}{p}\{(i,j)^t:0\leq i,j\leq p-1\}$ and $\mathcal{Z}_{D}^2:=\{x\in[0, 1)^2:\sum_{d\in D}{e^{2\pi i\langle d,x\rangle}}=0\}$. We show that if $\emptyset\neq\mathcal{Z}_{D}^2\subset E_p^2\setminus\{0\}$ and $\gcd(\det(M),p)=1$, then there exist at most $p^2$ mutually orthogonal exponential functions in $L^2(\mu_{M,D})$. The magnetic order induced by the pressure was studied in single crystalline FeSe by means of muon-spin rotation ($\mu$SR) technique. By following the evolution of the oscillatory part of the $\mu$SR signal as a function of angle between the initial muon-spin polarization and 101 axis of studied crystal it was found that the pressure induced magnetic order in FeSe corresponds either to the collinear (single-stripe) antiferromagnetic order as observed in parent compounds of various FeAs-based superconductors or to the Bi-Collinear order as obtained in FeTe system, but with the Fe spins turned by 45$^{\rm o}$. The value of the magnetic moment per Fe atom was estimated to be $\simeq 0. Read More

In the CP violating supersymmetric extension of the standard model with local gauged baryon and lepton symmetries(BLMSSM), there are new CP violating sources which can give new contributions to the quark electric dipole moment (EDM). Considering the CP violating phases, we analyze the EDMs of the quarks c and t. We take into account the contributions from the one loop diagrams. Read More

We report the first measurement of the longitudinal double-spin asymmetry $A_{LL}$ for mid-rapidity di-jet production in polarized $pp$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 200$ GeV. The di-jet cross section was measured and is shown to be consistent with next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD predictions. $A_{LL}$ results are presented for two distinct topologies, defined by the jet pseudorapidities, and are compared to predictions from several recent NLO global analyses. In this paper, the dependence of the broad Fe K$\alpha$ line on the physical parameters of AGN, such as the black hole mass $M_{BH}$, accretion rate (equivalently represented by Eddington ratio $\lambda_{Edd}$), and optical classification, is investigated by applying the X-ray spectra stacking method to a large sample of AGN which have well measured optical parameters. A broad line feature is detected ($>3\sigma$) in the stacked spectra of the high $\lambda_{Edd}$ sub-sample ($\log\lambda_{Edd}>-0.9$). Read More

We report the first di-jet transverse momentum asymmetry measurements from Au+Au and p+p collisions at RHIC. The two highest-energy back-to-back jets reconstructed from fragments with transverse momenta above 2 GeV/c display a significantly stronger momentum imbalance in heavy-ion collisions than in the p+p reference. When re-examined with correlated soft particles included, we observe that these di-jets then exhibit a unique new feature -- momentum balance is restored to that observed in p+p for a jet resolution parameter of R=0. We present a measurement of the inclusive production of Upsilon mesons in U+U collisions at 193 GeV at mid-rapidity (|y| < 1). Previous studies in central Au+Au collisions at 200 GeV show a suppression of Upsilon(1S+2S+3S) production relative to expectations from the Upsilon yield in p+p collisions scaled by the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions (Ncoll), with an indication that the Upsilon(1S) state is also suppressed. The present measurement extends the number of participant nucleons in the collision (Npart) by 20% compared to Au+Au collisions, and allows us to study a system with higher energy density. Read More

We present the first measurement of charge-dependent directed flow in Cu+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}$ = 200 GeV. The results are presented as a function of the particle transverse momentum and pseudorapidity for different centralities. A finite difference between the directed flow of positive and negative charged particles is observed that qualitatively agrees with the expectations from the effects of the initial strong electric field between two colliding ions with different nuclear charges. Considering a heterogeneous network (HetNet) where both macro base station (BS) and small cell (SC) nodes are equipped with massive antennas, this paper studies the performance for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) downlinks when the macro and small cells share the same spectrum and hence interfere with each other. Suppose that the large-scale antenna arrays at both macro BS and SC nodes employ maximum-ratio transmission (MRT) or zero-forcing transmission (ZFT) precoding, and transmit data streams to the served users simultaneously. A new pilot reuse pattern among SCs is proposed for channel estimation. Read More

Considering a heterogeneous network (HetNet) system consisting of a macro tier overlaid with a second tier of small cells (SCs), this paper studies the mean square error (MSE) based precoding design to be employed by the macro base station and the SC nodes for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) downlinks. First, a new sum-MSE of all users based minimization problem is proposed aiming to design a set of macro cell (MC) and SC transmit precoding matrices or vectors. To solve it, two different algorithms are presented. Read More

We present a holographic method for computing the response of R\'enyi entropies in conformal field theories to small shape deformations around a flat (or spherical) entangling surface. Our strategy employs the stress tensor one-point function in a deformed hyperboloid background and relates it to the coefficient in the two-point function of the displacement operator. We obtain explicit numerical results for $d=3,\dots,6$ spacetime dimensions, and also evaluate analytically the limits where the R\'enyi index approaches 1 and 0 in general dimensions. Read More

We provide a gravitational argument in favour of the covariant holographic entanglement entropy proposal. In general time-dependent states, the proposal asserts that the entanglement entropy of a region in the boundary field theory is given by a quarter of the area of a bulk extremal surface in Planck units. The main element of our discussion is an implementation of an appropriate Schwinger-Keldysh contour to obtain the reduced density matrix (and its powers) of a given region, as is relevant for the replica construction. The inclusive $J/\psi$ transverse momentum ($p_{T}$) spectra and nuclear modification factors are reported at midrapidity ($|y|<1.0$) in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$ 39, 62.4 and 200 GeV taken by the STAR experiment. Read More

We studied the atomic momentum distribution for a superposition of Bloch states spreading in the lowest band of an optical lattice after the action of the standing wave pulse. By designing the imposing pulse on this superposed state, an atomic momentum pattern appears with narrower interval between the adjacent peaks that can be far less than the double recoil momentum. The patterns with narrower interval come from the superposition of the action of the designed pulse on many Bloch states with quasi-momenta over the first Brillouin zone, where for each quasi-momentum there is an interference among several lowest bands. This is the second paper in a series on a new luminous z ~ 5 quasar survey using optical and near-infrared colors. Here we present a new determination of the bright end of the quasar luminosity function (QLF) at z ~ 5. Combined our 45 new quasars with previously known quasars that satisfy our selections, we construct the largest uniform luminous z ~ 5 quasar sample to date, with 99 quasars in the range 4. The analysis of large collections of image data is still a challenging problem due to the difficulty of capturing the true concepts in visual data. The similarity between images could be computed using different and possibly multimodal features such as color or edge information or even text labels. This motivates the design of image analysis solutions that are able to effectively integrate the multi-view information provided by different feature sets. Read More

In this work, we studied time-reversal-breaking topological phases as a result of the interplay between antiferromagnetism and inverted band structures in thin films of antiferromagnetic double perovskite transition-metal Sr$_2$FeOsO$_6$. By combining the first-principles calculations and analytical models, we demonstrate that the quantum anomalous Hall phase and chiral topological superconducting phase can be realized in this system. We find that to achieve time-reversal-breaking topological phases in antiferromagnetic materials, it is essential to break the combined symmetry of time reversal and inversion, which generally exists in antiferromagnetic structures. We consider the question of whether the leading contribution to the entanglement entropy in holographic CFTs is truly given by the expectation value of a linear operator as is suggested by the Ryu-Takayanagi formula. We investigate this property by computing the entanglement entropy, via the replica trick, in states dual to superpositions of macroscopically distinct geometries and find it consistent with evaluating the expectation value of the area operator within such states. However, we find that this fails once the number of semi-classical states in the superposition grows exponentially in the central charge of the CFT. Read More

We propose a pilot-data transmission overlay scheme for multipair massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) relaying systems employing either half- or full-duplex (HD or FD) communications at the relay station (RS). In the proposed scheme, pilots are transmitted in partial overlap with data to decrease the channel estimation overhead. The RS can detect the source data with minimal destination pilot interference by exploiting the asymptotic orthogonality of massive MIMO channels. Read More

There is a canonical unitary transformation from $L^2(\R)$ onto the Fock space $F^2$, called the Bargmann transform. We study the action of the Bargmann transform on several classical integral operators on $L^2(\R)$, including the fractional Fourier transform, the fractional Hilbert transform, and the wavelet transform. In a supersymmetric extension of the standard model where baryon and lepton numbers are local gauge symmetries(BLMSSM), we deduce the Feynman rules for neutrinos and new neutralinos. We briey introduce the mass matrices for the particles and the related couplings in this work, which are very useful to research the neutrinos and new neutralinos. Read More

In this work, we present a study of 207 quasars selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey quasar catalogs and the Herschel Stripe 82 survey. Quasars within this sample are high luminosity quasars with a mean bolometric luminosity of $10^{46.4}$ erg s$^{-1}$. Read More

The neutrino masses and mixings are studied in the model which is the supersymmetric extension of the standard model with local gauged baryon and lepton numbers(BLMSSM). At tree level the neutrinos can obtain tiny masses through the See-Saw mechanism in the BLMSSM. The one-loop corrections to the neutrino masses and mixings are important, and they are studied in this work with the mass insertion approximation. Read More

The dynamical backaction from a periodically driven optical or microwave cavity can reduce the damping of a mechanical resonator, leading to parametric instability accompanied by self-sustained oscillations. Fundamentally, the driving breaks the continuous time-translation symmetry and replaces it with the symmetry with respect to time translation by the driving period. This discrete symmetry should be reflected in the character of the oscillations. Read More

We present measurements of the near-side of triggered di-hadron correlations using neutral strange baryons ($\Lambda$, $\bar{\Lambda}$) and mesons ($K^0_S$) at intermediate transverse momentum (3 $<$ $p_T$ $<$ 6 GeV/$c$) to look for possible flavor and baryon/meson dependence. This study is performed in $d$+Au, Cu+Cu and Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{{NN}}}$ = 200 GeV measured by the STAR experiment at RHIC. The near-side di-hadron correlation contains two structures, a peak which is narrow in azimuth and pseudorapidity consistent with correlations due to jet fragmentation, and a correlation in azimuth which is broad in pseudorapidity. We present an analysis of spectrum and variability of the bright reddened narrow line Seyfert 1 galaxy Was~61 using 90 ks archival {\it XMM-Newton} data. The X-ray spectrum in 0.2-10 keV can be characterized by an absorbed power-law plus soft excess and an Fe K$\alpha$ emission line. Read More

We study the stability of Li-O compounds as a function of pressure, with Li ion battery applications and fundamental chemical interest in mind. Using the ab initio evolutionary algorithm, we predict stability of novel compounds LiO4, Li5O3 and Li6O under pressure. LiO4, formed at the pressure of just 6 GPa, can be seen as {\epsilon}-O8 accepting two electrons from two Li atoms. Read More

Using low-redshift (z<0.09) samples of AGNs, normal galaxies and groups of galaxies selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), we study the environments of type 1 and type 2 AGNs both on small and large scales. Comparisons are made for galaxy samples matched in redshift, $r$-band luminosity, [OIII] luminosity, and also the position in groups (central or satellite). Read More

We develop a framework for studying the well-known universal term in the Renyi entropy for an arbitrary entangling region in four-dimensional conformal field theories that are holographically dual to gravitational theories. The shape dependence of the Renyi entropy $S_n$ is described by two coefficients: $f_b(n)$ for traceless extrinsic curvature deformations and $f_c(n)$ for Weyl tensor deformations. We provide the first calculation of the coefficient $f_b(n)$ in interacting theories by relating it to the stress tensor one-point function in a deformed hyperboloid background. Read More

High-redshift quasars are important tracers of structure and evolution in the early universe. However, they are very rare and difficult to find when using color selection because of contamination from late-type dwarfs. High-redshift quasar surveys based on only optical colors suffer from incompleteness and low identification efficiency, especially at $z\gtrsim4. Read More
