We present first evidence for the process $e^+e^-\to \gamma\eta_c(1S)$ at six center-of-mass energies between 4.01 and 4.60~GeV using data collected by the BESIII experiment operating at BEPCII. Read More

We study the Loschmidt echo and the dynamical free energy of the Anderson model after a quench of the disorder strength. If the initial state is extended and the eigenstates of the post-quench Hamiltonian are strongly localized, we argue that the Loschmidt echo exhibits zeros periodically with the period $2\pi /D$ where $D$ is the width of spectra. At these zeros, the dynamical free energy diverges in a logarithmic way. Read More

We report high-pressure $^{77}$Se NMR studies on FeSe single crystals that reveal a prominent inhomogeneous NMR linewidth broadening upon cooling, with the magnetic field applied along the tetragonal [110] direction. The data indicate the existence of short-range ordered, inhomogeneous electronic nematicity, which has surprisingly long time scales over milliseconds. The short-range order survives temperatures up to 8 times the structural transition temperature, and remains robust against pressure, in contrast to the strong pressure-dependence of the orbital ordering, structural transition, and the ground state magnetism. Using a data set of 2.93 fb$^{-1}$ taken at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$ = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we perform a search for an extra U(1) gauge boson, also denoted as a dark photon. Read More

Off-diagonal Aubry-Andr\'{e} (AA) model has recently attracted a great deal of attention as they provide condensed matter realization of topological phases. We numerically study a generalized off-diagonal AA model with p-wave superfluid pairing in the presence of both commensurate and incommensurate hopping modulations. The phase diagram as functions of the modulation strength of incommensurate hopping and the strength of the p-wave pairing is obtained by using the multifractal analysis. Read More

We consider the problem of channel estimation for millimeter wave (mmWave) systems, where, to minimize the hardware complexity and power consumption, an analog transmit beamforming and receive combining structure with only one radio frequency (RF) chain at the base station (BS) and mobile station (MS) is employed. Most existing works for mmWave channel estimation exploit sparse scattering characteristics of the channel. In addition to sparsity, mmWave channels may exhibit angular spreads over the angle of arrival (AoA), angle of departure (AoD), and elevation domains. Read More

Searching for two-dimensional (2D) realistic materials able to realize room-temperature quantum spin Hall (QSH) effects is currently a growing field. Here, we through ab initio calculations to identify arsenene oxide, AsO, as an excellent candidate, which demonstrates high stability, flexibility, and tunable spin-orbit coupling (SOC) gaps. In contrast to known pristine or functionalized arsenene, the maximum nontrivial band gap of AsO reaches 89 meV, and can be further enhanced to 130 meV under biaxial strain. Read More

We measure the branching fraction and $CP$-violating asymmetry in the decay $B^{0}\to \pi^{0}\pi^{0}$, using a data sample of $752\times 10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. The obtained branching fraction and direct $CP$ asymmetry are $ \mathcal{B}(B\to \pi^{0}\pi^{0}) = [1.31 \pm 0. Read More

The mid-infrared (MIR) spectral range, pertaining to important applications such as molecular 'fingerprint' imaging, remote sensing, free space telecommunication and optical radar, is of particular scientific interest and technological importance. However, state-of-the-art materials for MIR detection are limited by intrinsic noise and inconvenient fabrication processes, resulting in high cost photodetectors requiring cryogenic operation. We report black arsenic-phosphorus-based long wavelength infrared photodetectors with room temperature operation up to 8. Read More

What are the roles of central and peripheral vision in human scene recognition? Larson and Loschky (2009) showed that peripheral vision contributes more than central vision in obtaining maximum scene recognition accuracy. However, central vision is more efficient for scene recognition than peripheral, based on the amount of visual area needed for accurate recognition. In this study, we model and explain the results of Larson and Loschky (2009) using a neurocomputational modeling approach. Read More

Deep learning techniques are being used in skeleton based action recognition tasks and outstanding performance has been reported. Compared with RNN based methods which tend to overemphasize temporal information, CNN-based approaches can jointly capture spatio-temporal information from texture color images encoded from skeleton sequences. There are several skeleton-based features that have proven effective in RNN-based and handcrafted-feature-based methods. Read More

In order to handle undesirable failures of a multicopter which occur in either the pre-flight process or the in-flight process, a failsafe mechanism design method based on supervisory control theory is proposed for the semi-autonomous control mode. Failsafe mechanism is a control logic that guides what subsequent actions the multicopter should take, by taking account of real-time information from guidance, attitude control, diagnosis, and other low-level subsystems. In order to design a failsafe mechanism for multicopters, safety issues of multicopters are introduced. Read More

Pebble games are a powerful tool in the study of finite model theory, constraint satisfaction and database theory. Monads and comonads are basic notions of category theory which are widely used in semantics of computation and in modern functional programming. We show that existential k-pebble games have a natural comonadic formulation. Read More

We study the connection between a family of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians H and Hermitian ones H based on exact solutions. In general, for a dynamic process in a non-Hermitian system H, there always exists a parallel dynamic process governed by the corresponding Hermitian conjugate Hamiltonian H{\dag}. We show that a linear superposition of the two parallel dynamics is exactly equivalent to the time evolution of a state under a Hermitian Hamiltonian H. Read More

A big data service is any data-originated resource that is offered over the Internet. The performance of a big data service depends on the data bought from the data collectors. However, the problem of optimal pricing and data allocation in big data services is not well-studied. Read More

Periodic driving of a quantum system can significantly alter its energy bands and even change the band topology, opening a completely new avenue for engineering novel quantum matter. Although important progress has been made recently in measuring topological properties of Floquet bands in different systems, direct experimental measurement of Floquet band dispersions and their topology change is still demanding. Here we directly measure Floquet band dispersions in a periodically driven spin-orbit coupled ultracold Fermi gas. Read More

Constructing the corresponding geometries from given entanglement entropies of a boundary QFT is a big challenge and leads to the grand project \emph{ it from Qubit}. Based on the observation that the AdS metric in the Riemann Normal Coordinates (RNC) can be summed into a closed form, we find that the AdS$_3$ metric in RNC can be straightforwardly read off from the entanglement entropy of CFT$_2$. We use the finite length or finite temperature CFT$_2$ as examples to demonstrate the identification. Read More

Inspired by the recent "Complexity = Action" conjecture, we use the approach proposed by Lehner et al. to calculate the rate of the action of the WheelerDeWitt patch at late times for static uncharged and charged black holes in $f\left( R\right) $ gravity. We propose a new method for semantic instance segmentation, by first computing how likely two pixels are to belong to the same object, and then by grouping similar pixels together. Our similarity metric is based on a deep, fully convolutional embedding model. alpha-RuCl3 has emerged as a leading candidate material for the observation of physics related to the Kitaev quantum spin liquid (QSL). By combined susceptibility, specific-heat, and nuclear-magnetic-resonance measurements, we demonstrate that alpha-RuCl3 undergoes a quantum phase transition to a QSL in a magnetic field of 7.5 T applied in the $ab$ plane. In this letter, we demonstrate a novel diffraction-free Bloch surface wave (DF-BSW) sustained on all-dielectric multilayers that does not diffract after being passed through three obstacles or across a single mode fiber. It can propagate in a straight line for distances longer than 110 {\mu}m at a wavelength of 633 nm and could be applied as an in-plane optical virtual probe, both in air and in an aqueous environment. The ability to be used in water, its long diffraction-free distance, and its tolerance to multiple obstacles make this DF-BSW ideal for certain applications in areas such as the biological sciences, where many measurements are made on glass surfaces or for which an aqueous environment is required, and for high-speed interconnections between chips, where low loss is necessary. We investigate the quench dynamics of a one-dimensional incommensurate lattice described by the Aubry-Andr\'{e} model by a sudden change of the strength of incommensurate potential $\Delta$ and unveil that the dynamical signature of localization-delocalization transition can be characterized by the occurrence of zero points in the Loschmit echo. For the quench process with quenching taking place between two limits of $\Delta=0$ and $\Delta=\infty$, we give analytical expressions of the Loschmidt echo, which indicate the existence of a series of zero points in the Loschmidt echo. For a general quench process, we calculate the Loschmidt echo numerically and analyze its statistical behavior. Read More

In this paper, we use Born-Infeld black holes to test two recent holographic conjectures of complexity, the "Complexity = Action" (CA) duality and "Complexity = Volume 2.0" (CV) duality. The complexity of a boundary state is identified with the action of the Wheeler-deWitt patch in CA duality, while this complexity is identified with the spacetime volume of the WdW patch in CV duality. We report the first measurement of the $T$-odd moments in the decay $D^{0} \rightarrow K_{S}^{0} \pi^{+} \pi^{-} \pi^{0}$ from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $966\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$ collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. From these moments we determine the $CP$-violation-sensitive asymmetry $a_{CP}^{T\text{-odd}} = \left[-0.28 \pm 1. Read More

In this paper, we demonstrate that locally, the $\alpha^{\prime}$ expansion of a string propagating in AdS can be summed into a closed expression, where the $\alpha'$ dependence is manifested. The T-dual of this sum exactly matches the expression controlling all genus expansion in the Goparkumar-Vafa formula, which in turn also matches the loop expansion of the Chern-Simons gauge theory. We therefore find an exact correspondence between the $\alpha^{\prime}$ expansion for a string moving in AdS and the genus expansion of a string propagating in four dimensional flat spacetime. Both simulations and observations have found that the spin of halo/galaxy is correlated with the large scale environment, and particularly the spin of halo flips in filament. A consistent picture of halo spin evolution in different environments is still lacked. Using N-body simulation we find that halo spin with its environment evolves continuously from sheet to cluster, and the flip of halo spin happens both in filament and nodes. Read More

Many people dream to become famous, YouTube video makers also wish their videos to have a large audience, and product retailers always hope to expose their products to customers as many as possible. Do these seemingly different phenomena share a common structure? We find that fame, popularity, or exposure, could be modeled as a node's discoverability in some properly defined network, and all of the previously mentioned phenomena can be stated as: a target node wants to be discovered easily by existing nodes in the network. In this work, we explicitly define the node discoverability in a network, and formulate a general node discoverability optimization problem. Read More

Rashba spin orbit coupling in topological insulators has attracted much interest due to its exotic properties closely related to spintronic devices. The coexistence of nontrivial topology and giant Rashba splitting, however, has rare been observed in two-dimensional films, limiting severely its potential applications at room temperature. Here, we propose a series of inversion asymmetric group IV films, ABZ2, whose stability are confirmed by phonon spectrum calculations. Read More

Scene flow describes the motion of 3D objects in real world and potentially could be the basis of a good feature for 3D action recognition. However, its use for action recognition, especially in the context of convolutional neural networks (ConvNets), has not been previously studied. In this paper, we propose the extraction and use of scene flow for action recognition from RGB-D data. Read More

We study the Hall conductance in a Floquet topological insulator in the long time limit after sudden switches of the driving amplitude. Based on a high frequency expansion of the effective Hamiltonian and the micromotion operator we demonstrate that the Hall conductance as function of the driving amplitude follows universal non-analytic laws close to phase boundaries, namely a logarithmic divergence for gapped initial states and jumps of a definite height for gapless initial states. We propose a novel fully convolutional networks architecture for shapes, denoted as Shape Fully Convolutional Networks (SFCN). Similar to convolution and pooling operation on image, the 3D shape is represented as a graph structure in the SFCN architecture, based on which we first propose and implement shape convolution and pooling operation. Meanwhile, to build our SFCN architecture in the original image segmentation FCN architecture, we also design and implement the generating operation with bridging function. Read More

We present Low*, a language for low-level programming and verification, and its application to high-assurance optimized cryptographic libraries. Low* is a shallow embedding of a small, sequential, well-behaved subset of C in F*, a dependently- typed variant of ML aimed at program verification. Departing from ML, Low* does not involve any garbage collection or implicit heap allocation; instead, it has a structured memory model \`a la CompCert, and it provides the control required for writing efficient low-level security-critical code. Recent advances in deep learning, especially deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs), have led to significant improvement over previous semantic segmentation systems. Here we show how to improve pixel-wise semantic segmentation by manipulating convolution-related operations that are better for practical use. First, we implement dense upsampling convolution (DUC) to generate pixel-level prediction, which is able to capture and decode more detailed information that is generally missing in bilinear upsampling. An object detector performs suboptimally when applied to image data taken from a viewpoint different from the one with which it was trained. In this paper, we present a viewpoint adaptation algorithm that allows a trained single-view object detector to be adapted to a new, distinct viewpoint. We first illustrate how a feature space transformation can be inferred from a known homography between the source and target viewpoints. Read More

The statistical properties of the soft gamma repeater SGR J1550--5418 are investigated carefully. We find that the cumulative distributions of fluence, peak flux and duration can be well fitted by a bent power law, while the cumulative distribution of waiting time follows a simple power law. In particular, the probability density functions of fluctuations of fluence, peak flux, and duration have a sharp peak and fat tails, which can be well fitted by a $q$-Gaussian function. Read More

We present the results of a search for the rare decays $B\to h\nu\overline{\nu}$, where $h$ stands for $K^+,\:K^0_{\mathrm{S}},\:K^{\ast +},\:K^{\ast 0},\:\pi^+,\:\pi^0,\:\rho^+$ and $\rho^{0}$. The results are obtained with $772\times10^{6}$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. We reconstruct one $B$ meson in a semileptonic decay and require a single $h$ meson but nothing else on the signal side. Read More

Induced from a 5/3 filling factor quantum Hall state in a single layer two-dimensional electron gas, unexpected even denominator plateaus quantized at (h/e^2)/(3/2) and (h/e^2)/(15/8) are observed under confinement. The quantum Hall plateaus develop below 300 mK at a local filling factor of 5/3, with a quantization of 0.04%. Read More
