It has been suggested that high-energy gamma-ray emission ($>100{\rm MeV}$) of nearby star-forming and starburst galaxies may be produced predominantly by cosmic rays colliding with the interstellar medium through neutral pion decay. Such pion-decay mechanism predicts a unique spectral signature in the gamma-ray spectrum, characterized by a fast rising spectrum (in $\nu F_\nu$ representation) and a spectral break below a few hundreds of MeV. We here report the evidence of a spectral break around 500~MeV in the disk emission of Large Magellanic Cloud, which is found in the analysis of the gamma-ray data extending down to 60 MeV observed by Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT). PSR J2032+4127 is a radio-loud gamma-ray-emitting pulsar; it is orbiting around a high-mass Be type star with a very long orbital period of 25-50years, and is approaching periastron, which will occur in late 2017/early 2018. This system comprises with a young pulsar and a Be type star, which is similar to the so-called gamma-ray binary PSR~B1259-63/LS2883. It is expected therefore that PSR J2032+4127 shows an enhancement of high-energy emission caused by the interaction between the pulsar wind and Be wind/disk around periastron. Read More

The supernova remnant Kes 73 and/or the magnetar 1E 1841-045 at its center can deposit a large amount of energy to the surroundings and is potentially responsible for particle acceleration. Using the data taken with the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT), we confirmed the presence of an extended source whose centroid position is highly consistent with this magnetar/supernova-remnant pair. The ejecta composition of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) is an open question in GRB physics. Some GRBs possess a quasi-thermal spectral component in the time-resolved spectral analysis, suggesting a hot fireball origin. Some others show an essentially feature-less non-thermal spectrum known as the "Band" function, which can be interpreted as synchrotron radiation in an optically thin region, suggesting a Poynting-flux-dominated jet composition. We investigate the electrostatic acceleration of electrons and positrons in the vicinity of the event horizon, applying the pulsar outer-gap model to black hole magnetospheres. During a low accretion phase, the radiatively inefficient accretion flow (RIAF) cannot emit enough MeV photons that are needed to sustain the force-free magnetosphere via two-photon collisions. The region around SGR 1806-20 and its host stellar cluster Cl* 1806-20 is a potentially important site of particle acceleration. The soft $\gamma-$ray repeater and Cl* 1806-20, which also contains several very massive stars including a luminous blue variable hypergiant LBV 1806-20, are capable of depositing a large amount of energy to the surroundings. We report the detection of orbital modulation, a model solution, and X-ray properties of a newly discovered contact binary, 2MASS J11201034$-$2201340. We serendipitously found this X-ray point source outside the error ellipse when searching for possible X-ray counterparts of $\gamma$-ray millisecond pulsars among the unidentified objects detected by the {\it Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope}. We report the results from a detailed $\gamma-$ray investigation in the field of two "dark accelerators", HESS J1745-303 and HESS J1741-302, with $6.9$ years of data obtained by the Fermi Large Area Telescope. The First \fermi-LAT Catalog of Sources Above 10 GeV reported evidence of pulsed emission above 25 GeV from 12 pulsars, including the Vela pulsar, which showed evidence of pulsation at $>37$ GeV energy bands. Using 62 months of \fermi-LAT data, we analyzed the gamma-ray emission from the Vela pulsar and searched for pulsed emission above 50 GeV. In re-analyzing the archival Chandra data of the globular cluster 47 Tucanae, we have detected a new diffuse X-ray emission feature within the half-mass radius of the cluster. Recent observations strongly suggest that the millisecond pulsar binary PSR J1023+0038 has developed an accretion disk since 2013 June. We present a multi-wavelength analysis of PSR J1023+0038, which reveals that 1) its gamma-rays suddenly brightened within a few days in June/July 2013 and has remained at a high gamma-ray state for several months; 2) both UV and X-ray fluxes have increased by roughly an order of magnitude, and 3) the spectral energy distribution has changed significantly after the gamma-ray sudden flux change. We have investigated the X-ray and $\gamma$-ray properties of the redback millisecond pulsar PSR J1723-2837 with XMM-Newton, Chandra and Fermi. We have discovered the X-ray orbital modulation of this binary system with the minimum that coincides with the phases of radio eclipse. The very high energy (VHE; >100 GeV) source HESS J0632+057 has been recently confirmed as a \gamma-ray binary, a subclass of the high mass X-ray binary (HMXB) population, through the detection of an orbital period of 321 days. We performed a deep search for the emission of HESS J0632+057 in the GeV energy range using data from the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT). We report on evidence for orbital phase-dependence of the gamma-ray emission from PSR B1957+20 black widow system by using the data of the Fermi Large Area Telescope. We divide an orbital cycle into two regions: a region containing the inferior conjunction, and the other region containing rest of the orbital cycle. Over the last few years, the data obtained using the Large Area Telescope (LAT) aboard the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope has provided new insights on high-energy processes in globular clusters, particularly those involving compact objects such as Millisecond Pulsars (MSPs). Gamma-ray emission in the 100 MeV to 10 GeV range has been detected from more than a dozen globular clusters in our galaxy, including 47 Tucanae and Terzan 5. Based on a sample of known gamma-ray globular clusters, the empirical relations between gamma-ray luminosity and properties of globular clusters such as their stellar encounter rate, metallicity, and possible optical and infrared photon energy densities, have been derived. To understand Galactic objects that emits GeV-TeV emission, a spatial correlation study between the Fermi bright source catalog and TeV source population was carried out in Tam et al. We report on the discovery of gamma-ray emission from several globular clusters (GCs), including Terzan 5, the second known gamma-ray GCs. By now, more than a dozen GCs are known to emit gamma-rays of energies above 100 MeV, thus enabling us to carry out the first detailed correlation study with several cluster properties. We found strong correlations between the observed gamma-ray luminosities and four cluster parameters: stellar encounter rate, metallicity [Fe/H], and energy densities of the soft photons at the cluster locations. We report the discovery of GeV emission at the position of supernova remnant Kes 17 by using the data from the Large Area Telescope on board the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. Kes 17 can be clearly detected with a significance of ~12 sigma in the 1 - 20 GeV range. Moreover, a number of gamma-ray sources were detected in its vicinity. Read More

We present a detailed analysis of the gamma-ray emission from HESS J1745-303 with the data obtained by the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope in the first ~29 months observation.The source can be clearly detected at the level of ~18-sigma and ~6-sigma in 1-20 GeV and 10-20 GeV respectively. Globular clusters (GCs) are emerging as a new class of gamma-ray emitters, thanks to the data obtained from the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. We have investigated the properties of a group of $\gamma$-ray emitting globular clusters (GCs) which have recently been uncovered in our Galaxy. By correlating the observed $\gamma$-ray luminosities $L_{\gamma}$ with various cluster properties, we probe the origin of the high energy photons from these GCs. We report $L_{\gamma}$ is positively correlated with the encounter rate $\Gamma_{c}$ and the metalicity $\left[{\rm Fe/H}\right]$ which place an intimate link between the gamma-ray emission and the millisecond pulsar population. The low-mass X-ray binary (LMXB) system FIRST J102347.6+003841 hosts a newly born millisecond pulsar (MSP) PSR J1023+0038 that was revealed as the first and only known rotation-powered MSP in a quiescent LMXB.
