The topic of superconductivity in strongly disordered materials has attracted a significant attention. In particular vivid debates are related to the subject of intrinsic spatial inhomogeneity responsible for non-BCS relation between the superconducting gap and the pairing potential. The COHERENT collaboration's primary objective is to measure coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CEvNS) using the unique, high-quality source of tens-of-MeV neutrinos provided by the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). In spite of its large cross section, the CEvNS process has never been observed, due to tiny energies of the resulting nuclear recoils which are out of reach for standard neutrino detectors. The measurement of CEvNS has now become feasible, thanks to the development of ultra-sensitive technology for rare decay and weakly-interacting massive particle (dark matter) searches. Read More

Thermal decomposition behaviors of TiH2 powder under a flowing helium atmosphere and in a low vacuum condition have been studied by using in-situ EXAFS technique. By an EXAFS analysis containing the multiple scattering paths including H atoms, the changes of hydrogen stoichiometric ratio and the phase transformation sequence are obtained. The results demonstrate that the initial decomposition temperature is dependent on experimental conditions, which occurs, respectively, at about 300 and 400 degree in a low vacuum condition and under a flowing helium atmosphere. We discuss efforts to determine the mass, radius, and surface composition of the nearby compact object RX J185635-3754 from its multi-wavelength spectral energy distribution. We compute non-magnetized model atmospheres and emergent spectra for selected compositions and gravities, and discuss efforts to fit existing and new observational data from ROSAT, EUVE and the HST. The spectral energy distribution matches that expected from a heavy-element dominated atmosphere, but not from a uniform temperature blackbody. Read More
