In this paper, we consider the discrete power function associated with the sixth Painlev\'e equation. This function is a special solution of the so-called cross-ratio equation with a similarity constraint. We show in this paper that this system is embedded in a cubic lattice with $\widetilde{W}(3A_1^{(1)})$ symmetry. Read More

Drones equipped with cameras have become a powerful tool for large-scale aerial 3D scanning, but existing automatic flight planners do not exploit all available information about the scene, and can therefore produce inaccurate and incomplete 3D models. We present an automatic method to generate drone trajectories, such that the imagery acquired during the flight will later produce a high-fidelity 3D model. Our method uses a coarse estimate of the scene geometry to plan camera trajectories that: (1) cover the scene as thoroughly as possible; (2) encourage observations of scene geometry from a diverse set of viewing angles; (3) avoid obstacles; and (4) respect a user-specified flight time budget. We present a system for converting a fully panoramic ($360^\circ$) video into a normal field-of-view (NFOV) hyperlapse for an optimal viewing experience. Our system exploits visual saliency and semantics to non-uniformly sample in space and time for generating hyperlapses. In addition, users can optionally choose objects of interest for customizing the hyperlapses. Read More

The well known elliptic discrete Painlev\'e equation of Sakai is constructed by a standard translation on the $E_8^{(1)}$ lattice, given by nearest neighbor vectors. In this paper, we give a new elliptic discrete Painlev\'e equation obtained by translations along next-nearest-neighbor vectors. This equation is a generic (8-parameter) version of a 2-parameter elliptic difference equation found by reduction from Adler's partial difference equation, the so-called Q4 equation. Read More

We study the asymptotic behaviour of the solutions of the fifth Painlev\'e equation as the independent variable approaches zero and infinity in the space of initial values. We show that the limit set of each solution is compact and connected and, moreover, that any solution with the essential singularity at zero has an infinite number of poles and zeroes, and any solution with the essential singularity at infinity has infinite number of poles and takes value $1$ infinitely many times. The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) is a multi-TeV high-luminosity linear e+e- collider under development. For an optimal exploitation of its physics potential, CLIC is foreseen to be built and operated in a staged approach with three centre-of-mass energy stages ranging from a few hundred GeV up to 3 TeV. The first stage will focus on precision Standard Model physics, in particular Higgs and top-quark measurements. Read More

We consider the asymptotic behaviour of the second discrete Painlev\'{e} equation in the limit as the independent variable becomes large. Using asymptotic power series, we find solutions that are asymptotically pole-free within some region of the complex plane. These asymptotic solutions exhibit Stokes phenomena, which is typically invisible to classical power series methods. Read More

The stellarator-type storage ring for accumulation of multi- Ampere proton and ion beams with energies in the range of $100~AkeV$ to $1~AMeV$ is designed at Frankfurt university. The main idea for beam confinement with high transversal momentum acceptance was presented in EPAC2006. This ring is typically suited for experiments in plasma physics and nuclear astrophysics. A simulation package employing a Particle in Cell (PIC) method is developed to study the high current beam transport and the dynamics of plasmas. This package includes subroutines those are suited for various planned projects at University of Frankfurt. In the framework of the storage ring project (F8SR) the code was written to describe the beam optics in toroidal magnetic fields. Read More

Recently, there is an increasing need for $H_{2}^+$ and $H_{3}^+$ ion sources. One example are ion therapy facilities, where $C^{4+}$ and $H_{3}^+$ ion beams along the linac are of great interest. Another example is a $H_{2}^+$ test beam for linacs finally operated with intense deuteron beams. Read More

The beam transport experiments in toroidal magnets were first described in EPAC08 [1] within the framework of a proposed low energy ion storage ring at Frankfurt University. The experiments with two room temperature 30 degree toroids are needed to design the accumulator ring with closed longitudinal magnetic field levels up to 6-8 T. The test setup aims on developing a ring injection system. Read More

A gas-filled reverse cyclotron for the thermalisation of energetic beams is under construction at NSCL/MSU. Rare isotopes produced via projectile fragmentation after in-flight separation will be injected into the device and converted into low-energy beams through buffer gas interactions as they spiral towards the centre of the device. The extracted thermal beams will be used for low energy experiments such as precision mass measurements with traps or laser spectroscopy, and further transport for reacceleration. Read More

The concept of a storage ring with toroidal magnetic field was presented in the two previous EPAC conferences. Here we report the first results of experiments performed with beam transport in toroidal magnetic fields and details of the injection system. The beam transport experiments were carried out with 30 degree toroidal segments with an axial magnetic field of 0. Read More

We present observations of interactions between the two filament channels of different chiralities and associated dynamics that occurred during 2014 April 18 -- 20. While two flux ropes of different helicity with parallel axial magnetic fields can only undergo a bounce interaction when they are brought together, the observations at the first glance show that the heated plasma is moving from one filament channel to the other. The SDO/AIA 171 A observations and the PFSS magnetic field extrapolation reveal the presence of fan-spine magnetic configuration over the filament channels with a null point located above them. We present a method of constructing discrete integrable systems with crystallographic reflection group (Weyl) symmetries, thus clarifying the relationship between different discrete integrable systems in terms of their symmetry groups. Discrete integrable systems are associated with space-filling polytopes arise from the geometric representation of the Weyl groups in the $n$-dimensional real Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^n$. The "multi-dimensional consistency" property of the discrete integrable system is shown to be inherited from the combinatorial properties of the polytope; while the dynamics of the system is described by the affine translations of the polytopes on the weight lattices of the Weyl groups. In this paper, we construct two lattices from the $\tau$ functions of $A_4^{(1)}$-surface $q$-Painlev\'e equations, on which quad-equations of ABS type appear. Moreover, using the reduced hypercube structure, we obtain the Lax pairs of the $A_4^{(1)}$-surface $q$-Painlev\'e equations. Read More

The nature of various plausible causal links between sympathetic events is still a controversial issue. In this work, we present multi-wavelength observations of sympathetic eruptions, associated flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) occurring on 2013 November 17 in two close-by active regions. Two filaments i. Read More

For transcendental functions that solve non-linear $q$-difference equations, the best descriptions available are the ones obtained by expansion near critical points at the origin and infinity. We describe such solutions of a $q$-discrete Painlev\'e equation, with 7 parameters whose initial value space is a rational surface of type $A_1^{(1)}$. The resultant expansions are shown to approach series expansions of the classical sixth Painlev\'e equation in the continuum limit. Read More

In this paper, we present observations and analysis of an interesting sigmoid formation, eruption and the associated flare that occurred on 2014 April 18 using multi-wavelength data sets. We discuss the possible role of the sigmoid eruption in triggering the flare, which consists of two different set of ribbons: parallel ribbons as well as a large-scale quasi-circular ribbon. Several observational evidence and nonlinear force-free field extrapolation results show the existence of a large-scale fan-spine type magnetic configuration with a sigmoid lying under a section of the fan dome. Custom optics is a necessity for many imaging applications. Unfortunately, custom lens design is costly (thousands to tens of thousands of dollars), time consuming (10-12 weeks typical lead time), and requires specialized optics design expertise. By using only inexpensive, off-the-shelf lens components the Lens Factory automatic design system greatly reduces cost and time. Read More

In this paper, we investigate a nonlinear non-autonomous elliptic difference equation, which was constructed by Ramani, Carstea and Grammaticos by integrable deautonomization of a periodic reduction of the discrete Krichever-Novikov equation, or Q4. We show how to construct it as a birational mapping on a rational surface blown up at eight points in $\mathbb P^1\times \mathbb P^1$, and find its affine Weyl symmetry, placing it in the geometric framework of the Painlev\'e equations. The initial value space is ell-$A_0^{(1)}$ and its symmetry group is $W(F_4^{(1)})$. Read More

We analyze multi-wavelength and multi-viewpoint observations of a helically twisted plasma jet formed during a confined filament eruption on 10-11 April 2013. Given a rather large scale event with its high spatial and temporal resolution observations, it allows us to clearly understand some new physical details about the formation and triggering mechanism of twisting jet. We identify a pre-existing flux rope associated with a sinistral filament, which was observed several days before the event. Read More

In this paper, we provide a comprehensive method for constructing Lax pairs of discrete Painlev\'e equations by using a reduced hypercube structure. In particular, we consider the $A_5^{(1)}$-surface $q$-Painlev\'e system which has the affine Weyl group symmetry of type $(A_2+A_1)^{(1)}$. Two new Lax pairs are found. Read More

We report and analyze the observational evidence of global kink oscillations in a solar filament as observed in H alpha by National Solar Observatory (NSO)/Global Oscillation Network Group (GONG) instrument. An M1.1-class flare in active region 11692 on 2013 March 15 induced a global kink mode in the filament lying in the south-west of AR11692. Read More

In this study, we consider the asymptotic behaviour of the first discrete Painlev\{e} equation in the limit as the independent variable becomes large. Using an asymptotic series expansion, we identify two types of solutions which are pole-free within some sector of the complex plane containing the positive real axis. Using exponential asymptotic techniques, we determine the Stokes Phenomena effects present within these solutions, and hence the regions in which the asymptotic series expression is valid. Read More

We study the asymptotic behaviour of solutions of the fourth Pain\-lev\'e equation as the independent variable goes to infinity in its space of (complex) initial values, which is a generalisation of phase space described by Okamoto. We show that the limit set of each solution is compact and connected and, moreover, that any non-special solution has an infinite number of poles and infinite number of zeroes. Read More

We present the observations of compound flux rope formation via merging of two nearby filament channels, associated dynamics and its stability that occurred on 2014 January 1 using multiwavelength data. We have also discussed the dynamics of cool and hot plasma moving along the newly formed compound flux rope. The merging started after the interaction between the southern leg of northward filament and the northern leg of the southward filament at around 01:21 UT and continue until a compound flux rope formed at around 01:33 UT. We construct the initial-value space of a $q$-discrete first Painlev\'e equation explicitly and describe the behaviours of its solutions $w(n)$ in this space as $n\to\infty$, with particular attention paid to neighbourhoods of exceptional lines and irreducible components of the anti-canonical divisor. These results show that trajectories starting in domains bounded away from the origin in initial value space are repelled away from such singular lines. However, the dynamical behaviours in neighbourhoods containing the origin are complicated by the merger of two simple base points at the origin in the limit. Read More

This work is on the Physics of the B Factories. Part A of this book contains a brief description of the SLAC and KEK B Factories as well as their detectors, BaBar and Belle, and data taking related issues. Part B discusses tools and methods used by the experiments in order to obtain results. Read More

With the web getting bigger and assimilating knowledge about different concepts and domains, it is becoming very difficult for simple database driven applications to capture the data for a domain. Thus developers have come out with ontology based systems which can store large amount of information and can apply reasoning and produce timely information. Thus facilitating effective knowledge management. Read More

Since long, corporations are looking for knowledge sources which can provide structured description of data and can focus on meaning and shared understanding. Structures which can facilitate open world assumptions and can be flexible enough to incorporate and recognize more than one name for an entity. A source whose major purpose is to facilitate human communication and interoperability. Read More

In this paper, we show how to relate $n$-dimensional cubes on which ABS equations hold to the symmetry groups of discrete Painlev\'e equations. We here focus on the reduction from the 4-dimensional cube to the $q$-discrete third Painlev\'e equation, which is a dynamical system on a rational surface of type $A_5^{(1)}$ with the extended affine Weyl group $\widetilde{\mathcal W}\bigl((A_2+A_1)^{(1)}\bigr)$. We provide general theorems to show that this reduction also extends to other discrete Painlev\'e equations at least of type A. Read More

We introduce the concept of $\omega$-lattice, constructed from $\tau$ functions of Painlev\'e systems, on which quad-equations of ABS type appear. In particular, we consider the $A_5^{(1)}$- and $A_6^{(1)}$-surface $q$-Painlev\'e systems corresponding affine Weyl group symmetries are of $(A_2+A_1)^{(1)}$- and $(A_1+A_1)^{(1)}$-types, respectively. In this paper we present an approach for estimating the quality of machine translation system. There are various methods for estimating the quality of output sentences, but in this paper we focus on Na\"ive Bayes classifier to build model using features which are extracted from the input sentences. These features are used for finding the likelihood of each of the sentences of the training data which are then further used for determining the scores of the test data. Read More

The classical Painlev\'e equations are so well known that it may come as a surprise to learn that the asymptotic description of its solutions remains incomplete. The problem lies mainly with the description of families of solutions in the complex domain. Where asymptotic descriptions are known, they are stated in the literature as valid for large connected domains, which include movable poles of families of solutions. Read More

Since long, research on machine translation has been ongoing. Still, we do not get good translations from MT engines so developed. Manual ranking of these outputs tends to be very time consuming and expensive. Read More

Machine translation evaluation is a very important activity in machine translation development. Automatic evaluation metrics proposed in literature are inadequate as they require one or more human reference translations to compare them with output produced by machine translation. This does not always give accurate results as a text can have several different translations. Read More

We study the temporal, spatial and spectral evolution of the M1.8 flare, which occurred in NOAA AR 11195 (S17E31) on 22 April 2011, and explore the underlying physical processes during the precursors and their relation to the main phase. The study of the source morphology using the composite images in 131 {\deg}A wavelength observed by the SDO/AIA and 6-14 keV revealed a multiloop system that destabilized systematically during the precursor and main phases. This paper presents a novel approach to machine translation by combining the state of art name entity translation scheme. Improper translation of name entities lapse the quality of machine translated output. In this work, name entities are transliterated by using statistical rule based approach. Read More

Part-of-speech (POS) tagging is a process of assigning the words in a text corresponding to a particular part of speech. A fundamental version of POS tagging is the identification of words as nouns, verbs, adjectives etc. For processing natural languages, Part of Speech tagging is a prominent tool. Read More

Urdu is a combination of several languages like Arabic, Hindi, English, Turkish, Sanskrit etc. It has a complex and rich morphology. This is the reason why not much work has been done in Urdu language processing. Read More

We report an observation of a partially erupting prominence and associated dynamical plasma processes based on observations recorded by the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) on board the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). The prominence first goes through a slow rise (SR) phase followed by a fast rise (FR). The slow rise phase started after a couple of small brightenings seen toward the footpoints. Read More

This paper considers the problem for estimating the quality of machine translation outputs which are independent of human intervention and are generally addressed using machine learning techniques. There are various measures through which a machine learns translations quality. Automatic Evaluation metrics produce good co-relation at corpus level but cannot produce the same results at the same segment or sentence level. Read More
