We present first evidence for the process $e^+e^-\to \gamma\eta_c(1S)$ at six center-of-mass energies between 4.01 and 4.60~GeV using data collected by the BESIII experiment operating at BEPCII. Read More

Disk polarization at (sub)millimeter wavelengths is being revolutionized by ALMA observationally, but its origin remains uncertain. Dust scattering was recently recognized as a potential contributor to polarization, although its basic properties have yet to be thoroughly explored. Here, we quantify the effects of optical depth on the scattering-induced polarization in inclined disks through a combination of analytical illustration, approximate semi-analytical modeling using formal solution to the radiative transfer equation, and Monte Carlo simulations. Using a data set of 2.93 fb$^{-1}$ taken at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$ = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we perform a search for an extra U(1) gauge boson, also denoted as a dark photon. Read More

We address the controversy over the proximity effect between topological materials and high T$_{c}$ superconductors. Junctions are produced between Bi$_{2}$Sr$_{2}$CaCu$_{2}$O$_{8+\delta}$ and materials with different Fermi surfaces (Bi$_{2}$Te$_{3}$ \& graphite). Both cases reveal tunneling spectra consistent with Andreev reflection. Read More

Sky subtraction is the key technique in data reduction of multi-fiber spectra. Knowledge of the related instrument character is necessary to determine the method adopted in sky subtraction. In this study, we described the sky subtraction method designed for LAMOST(Large sky Area Multi-Object fiber Spectroscopic Telescope) survey. Read More

Fully exploiting the properties of 2D crystals requires a mass production method able to produce heterostructures of arbitrary complexity on any substrate, including plastic. Solution processing of graphene allows simple and low-cost techniques such as inkjet printing to be used for device fabrication. However, available inkjet printable formulations are still far from ideal as they are either based on toxic solvents, have low concentration, or require time-consuming and expensive formulation processing. In conventional superconductors, very narrow superconducting fluctuation regions are observed above $T_c$ because of the strong overlapping of Cooper pairs in a coherence volume. In the bulk form of iron chalcogenide superconductor FeSe, it is argued that the system may locate in the crossover region of BCS to BEC, indicating a strong superconducting fluctuation. In this respect, we have carried out measurements of magnetization, specific heat and Nernst effect on FeSe single crystals in order to investigate the superconducting fluctuation effect near $T_c$. The possibility of utilizing the rich spin-dependent properties of graphene has attracted great attention in pursuit of spintronics advances. The promise of high-speed and low-energy consumption devices motivates a search for layered structures that stabilize chiral spin textures such as topologically protected skyrmions. Here we demonstrate that chiral spin textures are induced at graphene/ferromagnetic metal interfaces. Read More

The polyhedron projection for 360-degree video is becoming more and more popular since it can lead to much less geometry distortion compared with the equirectangular projection. However, in the polyhedron projection, we can observe very obvious texture discontinuity in the area near the face boundary. Such a texture discontinuity may lead to serious quality degradation when motion compensation crosses the discontinuous face boundary. Read More

In layered transition metal dichalcogenides (LTMDCs) that display both charge density waves (CDWs) and superconductivity, the superconducting state generally emerges directly on suppression of the CDW state. Here, however, we report a different observation for pressurized TaTe2, a non-superconducting CDW-bearing LTMDC at ambient pressure. We find that a superconducting state does not occur in TaTe2 after the full suppression of its CDW state, which we observe at about 3 GPa, but, rather, a non-superconducting semimetal state is observed. In the context of multimedia content, a modality can be defined as a type of data item such as text, images, music, and videos. Up to now, only limited research has been conducted on cross-modal retrieval of suitable music for a specified video or vice versa. Moreover, much of the existing research relies on metadata such as keywords, tags, or associated description that must be individually produced and attached posterior. Read More

Iron pnictides are the only known family of unconventional high-temperature superconductors besides cuprates. Until recently, it was widely accepted that superconductivity is spin-fluctuation driven and intimately related to their fermiology, specifically, hole and electron pockets separated by the same wave vector that characterizes the dominant spin fluctuations, and supporting order parameters (OP) of opposite signs. This picture was questioned after the discovery of a new family, based on the FeSe layers, either intercalated or in the monolayer form. Read More

In cognitive radio communication, unlicensed secondary user (SU) can access under-utilized spectrum of the licensed primary user (PU) opportunistically for emerging wireless applications. With interweave implementation, SU has to perform spectrum sensing on the target frequency band and waits for transmission if PU occupies the channel. This waiting time results in extra delay for secondary transmission. Read More

In this paper, we firstly exploit the inter-user interference (IUI) and inter-cell interference (ICI) as useful references to develop a robust transceiver design based on interference alignment for a downlink multi-user multi-cell multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) interference network under channel estimation error. At transmitters, we propose a two-tier transmit beamforming strategy, we first achieve the inner beamforming direction and allocated power by minimizing the interference leakage as well as maximizing the system energy efficiency, respectively. Then, for the outer beamformer design, we develop an efficient conjugate gradient Grassmann manifold subspace tracking algorithm to minimize the distances between the subspace spanned by interference and the interference subspace in the time varying channel. Based on the relative entropy, we give a unified characterization of quantum correlations for nonlocality, steerability, discord and entanglement for any bipartite quantum states. For two-qubit states we show that the quantities obtained from quantifying nonlocality, steerability, entanglement and discord have strictly monotonic relationship. As for examples, the Bell diagonal states are studied in detail. Read More

Topological metals with protected band-crossing points have been attracting great interest. Here we report novel topological band features in a family of metal diboride materials. Using first- principles calculations, we show that these materials are metallic, and close to Fermi level, there appears coexistence of one pair of nodal rings and one pair of triply-degenerate nodal points (TNPs). We study the dynamics of a hierarchical three-body system in the general-relativistic regime: an extreme mass-ratio inner binary under the tidal influence of an external body. The inner binary consists of a central Schwarzschild black hole and a compact test body moving around it (outer binary). We discover three types of tidal effects on the orbit of the test body. We develop an analytical framework for the perfor- mance comparison of small cell networks operating under static time division duplexing (S-TDD) and dynamic TDD (D-TDD). While in S-TDD downlink/uplink (DL/UL) cell transmissions are synchronized, in D-TDD each cell dynamically allocates resources to the most demanding direction. By leveraging stochastic geom- etry and queuing theory, we derive closed-form expressions for the UL and DL packet throughput, also capturing the impact of random traffic arrivals and packet retransmissions. Weak antilocalization (WAL) effects in Bi2Te3 single crystals have been investigated at high and low bulk charge carrier concentrations. At low charge carrier density the WAL curves scale with the normal component of the magnetic field, demonstrating the dominance of topological surface states in magnetoconductivity. At high charge carrier density the WAL curves scale with neither the applied field nor its normal component, implying a mixture of bulk and surface conduction. Read More

Constructing the corresponding geometries from given entanglement entropies of a boundary QFT is a big challenge and leads to the grand project \emph{ it from Qubit}. Based on the observation that the AdS metric in the Riemann Normal Coordinates (RNC) can be summed into a closed form, we find that the AdS$_3$ metric in RNC can be straightforwardly read off from the entanglement entropy of CFT$_2$. We use the finite length or finite temperature CFT$_2$ as examples to demonstrate the identification. Read More

Recent developments of imaging techniques enable researchers to visualize materials at the atomic resolution to better understand the microscopic structures of materials. This paper aims at automatic and quantitative characterization of potentially complicated microscopic crystal images, providing feedback to tweak theories and improve synthesis in materials science. As such, an efficient phase-space sketching method is proposed to encode microscopic crystal images in a translation, rotation, illumination, and scale invariant representation, which is also stable with respect to small deformations. Inspired by the recent "Complexity = Action" conjecture, we use the approach proposed by Lehner et al. to calculate the rate of the action of the WheelerDeWitt patch at late times for static uncharged and charged black holes in $f\left( R\right) $ gravity. The fraction of binary stars (fb) is one of most valuable tool to probe the star formation and evolution of multiple systems in the Galaxy. We focus on the relationship between fb and stellar metallicity ([Fe/H]) by employing the differential radial velocity (DRV) method and the large sample observed by the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST). Main-sequence stars from A- to K-types in the third data release (DR3) of LAMOST are selected to estimate fb. Read More

In this work, a serial on-line cluster reconstruction technique based on FPGA technology was developed to compress experiment data and reduce the dead time of data transmission and storage. At the same time, X-ray imaging experiment based on a two-dimensional positive sensitive triple GEM detector with an effective readout area of 10 cm*10 cm was done to demonstrate this technique with FPGA development board. The result showed that the reconstruction technology was practicality and efficient. Read More

While current-induced spin-orbit torques (SOTs) have been extensively studied in ferromagnets and antiferromagnets, ferrimagnets have been less studied. Here we report the presence of enhanced spin-orbit torques resulting from negative exchange interaction in ferrimagnets. The effective field and switching efficiency increase substantially as CoGd approaches its compensation point, giving rise to 9 times larger spin-orbit torques compared to that of non-compensated one. The emerging hybrid DRAM-NVM architecture is challenging the existing memory management mechanism in operating system. In this paper, we introduce memos, which can schedule memory resources over the entire memory hierarchy including cache, channels, main memory comprising DRAM and NVM simultaneously. Powered by our newly designed kernel-level monitoring module and page migration engine, memos can dynamically optimize the data placement at the memory hierarchy in terms of the on-line memory patterns, current resource utilization and feature of memory medium. The cardinality constraint is an intrinsic way to restrict the solution structure in many domains, for example, sparse learning, feature selection, and compressed sensing. To solve a cardinality constrained problem, the key challenge is to solve the projection onto the cardinality constraint set, which is NP-hard in general when there exist multiple overlapped cardiaiality constraints. In this paper, we consider the scenario where overlapped cardinality constraints satisfy a Three-view Cardinality Structure (TVCS), which reflects the natural restriction in many applications, such as identification of gene regulatory networks and task-worker assignment problem. In this paper, we use Born-Infeld black holes to test two recent holographic conjectures of complexity, the "Complexity = Action" (CA) duality and "Complexity = Volume 2.0" (CV) duality. The complexity of a boundary state is identified with the action of the Wheeler-deWitt patch in CA duality, while this complexity is identified with the spacetime volume of the WdW patch in CV duality. In this paper, we demonstrate that locally, the $\alpha^{\prime}$ expansion of a string propagating in AdS can be summed into a closed expression, where the $\alpha'$ dependence is manifested. The T-dual of this sum exactly matches the expression controlling all genus expansion in the Goparkumar-Vafa formula, which in turn also matches the loop expansion of the Chern-Simons gauge theory. We therefore find an exact correspondence between the $\alpha^{\prime}$ expansion for a string moving in AdS and the genus expansion of a string propagating in four dimensional flat spacetime. Assembling different two-dimensional (2D) crystals, covering a very broad range of properties, into van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures enables the unprecedented possibilities for combining the best of different ingredients in one objective material. So far, metallic, semiconducting, and insulating 2D crystals have been used successfully in making functional vdW heterostructures with properties by design. Here, we expand 2D superconducting crystals as a building block of the vdW hererostructures. Read More

We consider the ground-state properties of Rashba spin-orbit-coupled pseudo-spin-1/2 Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) in a rotating two-dimensional (2D) toroidal trap. In the absence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC), the increasing rotation frequency enhances the creation of giant vortices for the initially miscible BECs, while it can lead to the formation of semiring density patterns with irregular hidden vortex structures for the initially immiscible BECs. Without rotation, strong 2D isotropic SOC yields a heliciform-stripe phase for the initially immiscible BECs. Read More

Multi-instance multi-label (MIML) learning has many interesting applications in computer visions, including multi-object recognition and automatic image tagging. In these applications, additional information such as bounding-boxes, image captions and descriptions is often available during training phrase, which is referred as privileged information (PI). However, as existing works on learning using PI only consider instance-level PI (privileged instances), they fail to make use of bag-level PI (privileged bags) available in MIML learning. Read More

he DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) is a general purposed satellite-borne high energy $\gamma-$ray and cosmic ray detector, and among the scientific objectives of DAMPE are the searches for the origin of cosmic rays and an understanding of Dark Matter particles. As one of the four detectors in DAMPE, the Plastic Scintillator Detector (PSD) plays an important role in the particle charge measurement and the photons/electrons separation. The PSD has 82 modules, each consists of a long organic plastic scintillator bar and two PMTs at both ends for readout, in two layers and covers an overall active area larger than 82 cm $\times$ 82 cm. Modern distributed systems often rely on so called weakly-consistent databases, which achieve scalability by sacrificing the consistency guarantee of distributed transaction processing. Such databases have been formalised in two different styles, one based on abstract executions and the other based on dependency graphs. The choice between these styles has been made according to intended applications: the former has been used to specify and verify the implementation of these databases, and the latter to prove properties of programs running on top of the databases. If we assume line-of-sight propagation and perfect channel state information at the base station -- consistent with slow moving terminals -- then a direct performance comparison between single-cell Massive MIMO at PCS and mmWave frequency bands is straightforward and highly illuminating. Line-of-sight propagation is considered favorable for mmWave because of minimal attenuation, and its facilitation of hybrid beamforming to reduce the required number of active transceivers. We quantify the number of mmWave (60 GHz) service antennas that are needed to duplicate the performance of a specified number of PCS (1. Read More

We study the singly-Cabibbo-suppressed decays $\Lambda_c^{+}\to p\eta$ and $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to p\pi^{0}$ using $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\Lambda_{c}^{+}$ pairs produced by $e^+e^-$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 4.6\; GeV$. The data sample was collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 567 $pb^{-1}$. Read More

Recognizing dynamic scenes is one of the fundamental problems in scene understanding, which categorizes moving scenes such as a forest fire, landslide, or avalanche. While existing methods focus on reliable capturing of static and dynamic information, few works have explored frame selection from a dynamic scene sequence. In this paper, we propose dynamic scene recognition using a deep dual descriptor based on `key frames' and `key segments. Read More

Real-world face recognition using a single sample per person (SSPP) is a challenging task. The problem is exacerbated if the conditions under which the gallery image and the probe set are captured are completely different. To address these issues from the perspective of domain adaptation, we introduce an SSPP domain adaptation network (SSPP-DAN). Read More

The distribution of the geometric distances of connected neurons is a practical factor underlying neural networks in the brain. It can affect the brain\'s dynamic properties at the ground level. Karbowski derived a power-law decay distribution that has not yet been verified by experiment. Read More

Considerable efforts have been made to trap massless Dirac fermions in graphene monolayer, but only quasi-bound states are realized in continuous graphene sheets up to now. Here, we demonstrate the realization of bound states in nanoscale graphene quantum dots (GQDs) in a continuous graphene sheet. The GQDs are electronically isolated from the surrounding continuous graphene sheet by circular boundaries, which are generated by strong coupling between graphene and substrate. Read More
