Brain Computer Interface (BCI) can help patients of neuromuscular diseases restore parts of the movement and communication abilities that they have lost. Most of BCIs rely on mapping brain activities to device instructions, but limited number of brain activities decides the limited abilities of BCIs. To deal with the problem of limited ablility of BCI, this paper verified the feasibility of constructing BCI based on decoding imagined speech electroencephalography (EEG). Read More

In many industrial applications of big data, the Jaccard Similarity Computation has been widely used to measure the distance between two profiles or sets respectively owned by two users. Yet, one semi-honest user with unpredictable knowledge may also deduce the private or sensitive information (e.g. Read More

The motion of massless Dirac-electrons in graphene mimics the propagation of photons. This makes it possible to control the charge-carriers with components based on geometrical-optics and has led to proposals for an all-graphene electron-optics platform. An open question arising from the possibility of reducing the component-size to the nanometer-scale is how to access and understand the transition from optical-transport to quantum-confinement. Using a data set of 2.93 fb$^{-1}$ taken at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$ = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we perform a search for an extra U(1) gauge boson, also denoted as a dark photon. Read More

The Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) is a future Higgs factory proposed by the Chinese high energy physics community. It will operate at a center-of-mass energy of 240-250 GeV. The CEPC will accumulate an integrated luminosity of 5 ab$^{\rm{-1}}$ in ten years' operation. Read More

Recently, the BESIII Collaboration reported two new decay processes $h_c(1P)\to \gamma \eta$ and $\gamma \eta^\prime$. Inspired by this measurement, we propose to study the radiative decays of $h_c$ via intermediate charmed meson loops in an effective Lagrangian approach. With the acceptable cutoff parameter range, the calculated branching ratios of $h_c(1P)\to \gamma \eta$ and $\gamma \eta^\prime$ are orders of $10^{-4}\sim 10^{-3}$ and $10^{-3} \sim 10^{-2}$, respectively. Single-exposure spectra in large spectral surveys are valuable for time domain studies such as stellar variability, but there is no available method to eliminate cosmic rays for single-exposure, multi-fiber spectral images. In this paper, we describe a new method to detect and remove cosmic rays in multi-fiber spectroscopic single exposures. Through the use of two-dimensional profile fitting and a noise model that considers the position-dependent errors, we successfully detect as many as 80% of the cosmic rays and correct the cosmic ray polluted pixels to an average accuracy of 97. Sky subtraction is the key technique in data reduction of multi-fiber spectra. Knowledge of the related instrument character is necessary to determine the method adopted in sky subtraction. In this study, we described the sky subtraction method designed for LAMOST(Large sky Area Multi-Object fiber Spectroscopic Telescope) survey. Read More

We show that the forward-backward asymmetry $(A_{FB})$ of the charged lepton in $gg\to H\to\gamma Z\to\gamma \ell^-\ell^+$ process could be used to probe the CP violating $H\gamma Z$ coupling when the interference of $gg\to\gamma Z\to\gamma \ell^-\ell^+$ process is included. In the presence of CP violation in $H\gamma Z$ coupling, the interference has a non-vanishing forward-backward asymmetry $(A_{FB})$, which is also sensitive to the strong phase differences. The resonant and non-resonant strong phases together make $A_{FB}$ change sign around Higgs mass $M_H$. Read More

We observe for the first time the process $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow \eta h_c$ with data collected by the BESIII experiment. Significant signals are observed at the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=4.226$ GeV, and the Born cross section is measured to be $(9. Read More

Vehicular communications have attracted more and more attention recently from both industry and academia due to its strong potential to enhance road safety, improve traffic efficiency, and provide rich on-board information and entertainment services. In this paper, we discuss fundamental physical layer issues that enable efficient vehicular communications and present a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art research. We first introduce vehicular channel characteristics and modeling, which are the key underlying features differentiating vehicular communications from other types of wireless systems. Read More

Image saliency detection has recently witnessed rapid progress due to deep convolutional neural networks. However, none of the existing methods is able to identify object instances in the detected salient regions. In this paper, we present a salient instance segmentation method that produces a saliency mask with distinct object instance labels for an input image. Read More

Dimension reduction plays an essential role when decreasing the complexity of solving large-scale problems. The well-known Johnson-Lindenstrauss (JL) Lemma and Restricted Isometry Property (RIP) admit the use of random projection to reduce the dimension while keeping the Euclidean distance, which leads to the boom of Compressed Sensing and the field of sparsity related signal processing. Recently, successful applications of sparse models in computer vision and machine learning have increasingly hinted that the underlying structure of high dimensional data looks more like a union of subspaces (UoS). We revisit the Hawking temperature$-$entanglement entropy criticality of the $d$-dimensional charged AdS black hole with our attention concentrated on the ratio $\frac{T_c \delta S_c}{Q_c}$. Comparing the results of this paper with those of the ratio $\frac{T_c S_c}{Q_c}$, one can find both the similarities and differences. These two ratios are independent of the characteristic length scale $l$ and dependent on the dimension $d$. Read More

We investigate the ratios of critical physical quantities related to the $T-S$ criticality of charged AdS black holes. It is shown that the ratio $\frac{T_cS_c}{Q_c}$ is universal while $\frac{T_cr_c}{Q_c}$ is not. This finding is quite interesting considering the former observation that both the $T-S$ graph and $T-r_+$ graph exhibit reverse van der Waals behavior. Read More

In this paper, we have applied the Lorentz-invariance-violation (LIV) class of dispersion relations (DR) with the dimensionless parameter n = 2 and the "sign of LIV" {\eta}_+ = 1, to phenomenologically study the effect of quantum gravity in the strong gravitational field. Specifically, we have studied the effect of the LIV-DR induced quantum gravity on the Schwarzschild black hole thermodynamics. The result shows that the effect of the LIV-DR induced quantum gravity speeds up the black hole evaporation, and its corresponding black hole entropy undergoes a leading logarithmic correction to the "reduced Bekenstein-Hawking entropy", and the ill defined situations (i. Interaction between plasmonic nanostructures and molecules is modeled based on the concept of quantized optical cavity for surface enhanced Raman scattering process. We have found that the background emission from plasmonic nanostructures is not constant as speculated ordinarily, it is enhanced accompanying with the molecules Raman scattering. The plasmonic nanostructures not only scatter elastically the energy coupling from the molecules excited states, but also radiate it inelastically as surface plasmon emission partly resulting an enhanced background. Space-division multiplexing (SDM), whereby multiple spatial channels in multimode and multicore optical fibers are used to increase the total transmission capacity per fiber, is being investigated to avert a data capacity crunch and reduce the cost per transmitted bit. With the number of channels employed in SDM transmission experiments continuing to rise, there is a requirement for integrated SDM components that are scalable. Here, we demonstrate a cladding-pumped SDM erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) that consists of six uncoupled multimode erbium-doped cores. Read More

In this paper, starting from Dirac equation describing the spin 1/2 fermion and Rarita-Schwinger equation describing the spin 3/2 fermion respectively, we derive a Hamilton-Jacobi equation of the non-stationary spherically symmetric gravitational field background. Furthermore, the quantum tunneling behavior of a charged spherically symmetric black hole is investigated by using this Hamilton-Jacobi equation. Read More

Topological states emerge at the boundary of solids as a consequence of the nontrivial topology of the bulk. Recently, theory predicts a topological edge state on single layer transition metal dichalcogenides with 1T' structure. However, its existence still lacks experimental proof. Read More

In the present paper, we establish the uniqueness and nondegeneracy of positive energy solutions to the Kirchhoff equation \begin{eqnarray*} -\left(a+b\int_{\mathbb{R}^{3}}|\nabla u|^{2}\right)\Delta u+u=|u|^{p-1}u & & \text{in }\mathbb{R}^{3}, \end{eqnarray*} where $a,b>0$, $10$ sufficiently small, under some mild assumptions on the potential function $V:\mathbb{R}^3\to \mathbb{R}$. The existence result is obtained by applying the Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction method. Read More

Today's process modeling languages often force the analyst or modeler to straightjacket real-life processes into simplistic or incomplete models that fail to capture the essential features of the domain under study. Conventional business process models only describe the lifecycles of individual instances (cases) in isolation. Although process models may include data elements (cf. Read More

This study presents a meshless-based local reanalysis (MLR) method. The purpose of this study is to extend reanalysis methods to the Kriging interpolation meshless method due to its high efficiency. In this study, two reanalysis methods: combined approximations CA) and indirect factorization updating (IFU) methods are utilized. Read More

It is interesting and of significant importance to investigate how network structures co-evolve with opinions. The existing models of such co-evolution typically lead to the final states where network nodes either reach a global consensus or break into separated communities, each of which holding its own community consensus. Such results, however, can hardly explain the richness of real-life observations that opinions are always diversified with no global or even community consensus, and people seldom, if not never, totally cut off themselves from dissenters. Current face alignment algorithms can robustly find a set of landmarks along face contour. However, the landmarks are sparse and lack curve details, especially in chin and cheek areas where a lot of concave-convex bending information exists. In this paper, we propose a local to global seam cutting and integrating algorithm (L2GSCI) to extract continuous and accurate face contour. Read More

Both General Relativistic (GR) precession and the Lidov-Kozai mechanism, separately, are known to play an important role in the orbital evolution of solar system bodies. Previous works have studied these two mechanisms independently in great detail. However, both these phenomena occurring at the same time in real solar system bodies have rarely been explored. Transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) monolayers present a remarkable multifunctional material with potential to enable the development of a wide range of novel devices. However, the functionalities observed often fall short of the expectation, which hinders the device development. Here we demonstrate that the optical, catalytic, and thermal functionalities of TMDC monolayers can all be substantially enhanced by up to orders of magnitude with the intercalation of water molecules or small cations (H+ and Li+) between the monolayers and underlying substrates. Efficient allocation of limited medical resources is crucial for controlling epidemic spreading on networks. Based on the susceptible-infected-susceptible model, we solve an optimization problem as how best to allocate the limited resources so as to minimize the prevalence, providing that the curing rate of each node is positively correlated to its medical resource. By quenched mean-field theory and heterogeneous mean-field (HMF) theory, we prove that epidemic outbreak will be suppressed to the greatest extent if the curing rate of each node is directly proportional to its degree, under which the effective infection rate $\lambda$ has a maximal threshold $\lambda_c^{opt}=1/\left\langle k \right\rangle$ where $\left\langle k \right\rangle$ is average degree of the underlying network. We present exact copositive relaxation and global optimality conditions for an extended trust-region problem under suitable conditions by way of studying its semi-Lagrangian duality. We then establish conditions under which exactness of semi-Lagrangian relaxations, or of the usual Lagrangian relaxation, holds for an extended CDT (two-ball trust-region) problem. Read More

Fifth generation (5G) wireless networks face various challenges in order to support large-scale heterogeneous traffic and users, therefore new modulation and multiple access (MA) schemes are being developed to meet the changing demands. As this research space is ever increasing, it becomes more important to analyze the various approaches, therefore in this article we present a comprehensive overview of the most promising modulation and MA schemes for 5G networks. We first introduce the different types of modulation that indicate their potential for orthogonal multiple access (OMA) schemes and compare their performance in terms of spectral efficiency, out-of-band leakage, and bit-error rate. We report an inconsistency found in probability theory (also referred to as measure-theoretic probability). For probability measures induced by real-valued random variables, we deduce an "equality" such that one side of the "equality" is a probability, but the other side is not. For probability measures induced by extended random variables, we deduce an "equality" such that its two sides are unequal probabilities. Read More

We study a spectral initialization method that serves a key role in recent work on estimating signals in nonconvex settings. Previous analysis of this method focuses on the phase retrieval problem and provides only performance bounds. In this paper, we consider arbitrary generalized linear sensing models and present a precise asymptotic characterization of the performance of the method in the high-dimensional limit. Read More

The geometrically frustrated two dimensional triangular lattice magnets A${_4}$B'B${_2}$O$_{12}$ (A = Ba, Sr, La; B' = Co, Ni, Mn; B = W, Re) have been studied by x-ray diffraction, AC and DC susceptibilities, powder neutron diffraction, and specific heat measurements. The results reveal that (i) the samples containing Co$^{2+}$ (effective spin-1/2) and Ni$^{2+}$ (spin-1) ions with small spin numbers exhibit ferromagnetic (FM) ordering while the sample containing Mn$^{2+}$ (spin-5/2) ions with a large spin number exhibits antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering. We ascribe these spin number manipulated ground states to the competition between the AFM B'-O-O-B' and FM B'-O-B-O-B' superexchange interactions; (ii) the chemical pressure introduced into the Co containing samples through the replacement of different size ions on the A site finely tunes the FM ordering temperature of the system. We study the singly-Cabibbo-suppressed decays $\Lambda_c^{+}\to p\eta$ and $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to p\pi^{0}$ using $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\Lambda_{c}^{+}$ pairs produced by $e^+e^-$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 4.6\; GeV$. The data sample was collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 567 $pb^{-1}$. Read More

We theoretically investigate the generation of intense keV attosecond pulses in an orthogonally polarized multicycle midinfrared two-color laser field. It is demonstrated that multiple continuum-like humps, which have a spectral width of about twenty orders of harmonics and an intensity of about one order higher than adjacent normal harmonic peaks, are generated under proper two-color delays, owing to the reduction of the number of electron-ion recollisions and suppression of inter-half-cycle interference effect of multiple electron trajectories when the long wavelength midinfrared driving field is used. Using the semiclassical trajectory model, we have revealed the two-dimensional manipulation of the electron-ion recollision process, which agrees well with the time frequency analysis. Read More

Dynamic networks are commonly used in applications where relational data is observed over time. Statistical models for such data should capture not only the temporal dependencies between networks observed in time, but also the structural dependencies among the nodes and edges in each network. As a consequence, effectively making inference on dynamic networks is a computationally challenging task, and many models established for dynamic networks are intractable even for moderately sized networks. In this paper, we introduce a new class of nonsmooth convex functions called SOS-convex semialgebraic functions extending the recently proposed notion of SOS-convex polynomials. This class of nonsmooth convex functions covers many common nonsmooth functions arising in the applications such as the Euclidean norm, the maximum eigenvalue function and the least squares functions with $\ell_1$-regularization or elastic net regularization used in statistics and compressed sensing. We show that, under commonly used strict feasibility conditions, the optimal value and an optimal solution of SOS-convex semi-algebraic programs can be found by solving a single semi-definite programming problem (SDP). This paper introduces a new view of multi-user (MU) hybrid massive multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) systems from array signal processing perspective. We analyze a time division duplex massive MIMO system where the base station (BS) is equipped with a uniform linear array and each user has a single antenna, and show that the instantaneous channel vectors corresponding to different users are asymptotically orthogonal as the number of antennas at the BS goes large when the angles of arrival (AOAs) of users are different. Applying the discrete Fourier transform (DFT), the cosine of AOA can be estimated with a resolution inverse proportional to the number of antenna at the BS, and this resolution can be enhanced via zero padding technique with fast Fourier transform (FFT).
