The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) is a multi-TeV high-luminosity linear e+e- collider under development. For an optimal exploitation of its physics potential, CLIC is foreseen to be built and operated in a staged approach with three centre-of-mass energy stages ranging from a few hundred GeV up to 3 TeV. The first stage will focus on precision Standard Model physics, in particular Higgs and top-quark measurements. Read More

In this article, we propose a novel approach to measure the branching ratios of the leptonic eta(')-> mu+mu- decays by using charmed meson decays, namely, D+(s)->pi+ eta(')(->mu+mu-) and D0->K-pi+eta(')(->mu+mu-). We advocate that the data available at LHCb can already yield a new measurement of Br(eta->mu+mu-) with accuracy competitive with the current world average. We also estimate that using the data collected by LHCb between 2015 and 2018 in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5. We propose a model independent extraction of the hadronic information needed to determine the photon polarization of the b-> s gamma process by the method utilizing the B -> K1 gamma -> K pi pi gamma angular distribution. We show that exactly the same hadronic information can be obtained by using the B -> J/psi K1 -> J/psi K pi pi channel, which leads to a much higher precision. Read More

A detailed discussion of the long-range one-pion exchange (Yukawa potential) contribution to the 2S hyperfine splitting in muonic hydrogen which had, until recently, been disregarded is presented. We evaluate the relevant vertex amplitudes, in particular $\pi^0\mu^+\mu^-$, combining low energy chiral expansions together with experimental data on $\pi^0$ and $\eta$ decays into two leptons. A value of $\Delta{E}^\pi_{HFS}= -(0. Read More

We investigate the sensitivity to new physics of the process e+e- -> t bar{t} when the top polarization is analyzed using leptonic final states e+e- -> t \bar{t} -> l+l- b \bar{b} nu_l \bar{nu}_l. We first show that the kinematical reconstruction of the complete kinematics is experimentally tractable for this process. Then we apply the matrix element method to study the sensitivity to the Vt\bar{t} coupling (V being a vector gauge boson), at the tree level and in the narrow width approximation. Read More

In these three lectures, I overview the theoretical framework of the flavour physics and CP violation. The first lecture is the introduction to the flavour physics. Namely, I give theoretical basics of the weak interaction. Read More

This work is on the Physics of the B Factories. Part A of this book contains a brief description of the SLAC and KEK B Factories as well as their detectors, BaBar and Belle, and data taking related issues. Part B discusses tools and methods used by the experiments in order to obtain results. Read More

The isovector partners of the X(3872), recently found at BES III, Belle and CLEO-c were predicted in a simple model based on the chromomagnetic interaction among quarks (H. Hogaasen, J-M. Richard and P. Read More

The circular-polarization of the photon in the radiative B decays is dominantly left-handed in the Standard Model (SM), but the right-handed polarization may be enhanced in some new physics models with right-handed currents, such as the Left-Right Symmetric Model (LRSM). In this article, we investigate how large this wrong polarization could be within the allowed parameter space of the LRSM. We show that in LRSM, the right-handed polarization of the photon in the $b\to s\gamma$ processes could be largely enhanced by the $W_L-W_R$ mixing contributions because of the helicity flip on the internal top quark line of the penguin diagrams and the enhancement by the CKM factor $V_{ts}^R/V_{ts}^L$. We reevaluate the two form factors relevant for the $\eta\pi$ second-class $\tau$ decay mode, making systematic use of analyticity, unitarity, combined with updated inputs to the NLO chiral constraints. We focus, in particular, on the shape of the $\rho$ resonance peak which is a background-free signature of a second-class current. Its dispersive construction requires the $\eta\pi\to\pi\pi$ scattering amplitude which we derive from a family of Khuri-Treiman equations solutions constrained with accurate recent results on the $\eta\to3\pi$ Dalitz plot. We discuss the possibilities of assessing a non-zero $C_{7\gamma}^\prime$ from the direct and the indirect measurements of the photon polarization in the exclusive $b \to s\gamma^{(*)}$ decays. We focus on three methods and explore the following three decay modes: $B \to K^*(\to K_S\pi^0)\gamma$, $B \to K_1(\to K\pi\pi)\gamma$, and $B \to K^*(\to K\pi)\ell^+\ell^-$. By studying different New Physics scenarios we show that the future measurement of conveniently defined observables in these decays could provide us with the full determination of $C_{7\gamma}$ and $C_{7\gamma}^\prime$. We propose to investigate various charmonium states using their common decay channel to p pbar at LHC. Having the branching ratios for charmonium decaying into the p pbar final state measured or calculated, we propose to measure the charmonium production rate for both hadroproduction including soft-diffraction and inclusive production from b-hadron decays. We discuss the theoretical impacts in QCD of measuring different charmonium production rates and also the experimental prospects at LHCb, in particular, those for yet unmeasured eta_c and h_c. We investigate the K1--> K pi pi strong interaction decays. Using the 3P0 quark-pair-creation model to derive the basic parametrization, we discuss in detail how to obtain the various partial wave amplitudes into the possible quasi-two-body decay channels as well as their relative phases from the currently available experimental data. We obtain the K1 mixing angle to be thetaK1= 60 deg, in agreement with previous works. Read More

Recently the radiative B decay to the strange axial-vector mesons, B --> K1(1270) gamma, has been observed with rather large branching ratio. This process is particularly interesting as the subsequent K1 decay into its three body final state allows us to determine the polarization of the photon, which is mostly left- (right-)handed for Bbar (B) in the SM while various new physics models predict additional right- (left-)handed components. A new method is proposed to determine the polarization, exploiting the full Dalitz plot distribution, which seems to reduce significantly the statistical errors. Read More

This report presents the results of studies that investigate the physics reach at a Super $B$ factory, an asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider with a design luminosity of $8 \times 10^{35}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$, which is around 50 times as large as the peak luminosity achieved by the KEKB collider. The studies focus on flavor physics and CP violation measurements that could be carried out in the LHC era. The physics motivation, key observables, measurement methods and expected precisions are presented. Read More

Discoveries at the LHC will soon set the physics agenda for future colliders. This report of a CERN Theory Institute includes the summaries of Working Groups that reviewed the physics goals and prospects of LHC running with 10 to 300/fb of integrated luminosity, of the proposed sLHC luminosity upgrade, of the ILC, of CLIC, of the LHeC and of a muon collider. The four Working Groups considered possible scenarios for the first 10/fb of data at the LHC in which (i) a state with properties that are compatible with a Higgs boson is discovered, (ii) no such state is discovered either because the Higgs properties are such that it is difficult to detect or because no Higgs boson exists, (iii) a missing-energy signal beyond the Standard Model is discovered as in some supersymmetric models, and (iv) some other exotic signature of new physics is discovered. We discuss the decay of Bc mesons into two light mesons (pi, K^(*), eta', rho, omega, phi). All these decay channels come from a single type of diagram, namely tree annihilation. This allows us to derive extremely simple SU(3) relations among these processes. Read More

We point out at the peculiarity of B --> mu nu decay, namely the enhancement of the soft photon events which originate from the structure dependent part of the B --> mu nu gamma amplitude. This may be a dominant source of systematic uncertainty and compromise the projected experimental uncertainty on Gamma(B --> mu nu). We show that the effect of these soft photons can be controlled if the experimental cut on identification of soft photons is lowered and especially if the better resolution in identifying the momentum of muon emerging from B --> mu nu, is made. The sixth SuperB Workshop was convened in response to questions posed by the INFN Review Committee, evaluating the SuperB project at the request of INFN. The working groups addressed the capability of a high-luminosity flavor factory that can gather a data sample of 50 to 75 /ab in five years to elucidate New Physics phenomena unearthed at the LHC. This report summarizes the results of the Workshop. Read More

This review presents flavour related issues in the production and decays of heavy states at LHC, both from the experimental side and from the theoretical side. We review top quark physics and discuss flavour aspects of several extensions of the Standard Model, such as supersymmetry, little Higgs model or models with extra dimensions. This includes discovery aspects as well as measurement of several properties of these heavy states. Read More

We estimate the density matrix element for the pi^0, eta and eta' production from the vacuum in the large-N_c limit. As a consequence, we find that the QCD axial anomaly leads to highly non-trivial corrections to the usual flavour SU(3) relations between B^0-> K^0 pi^0, B^0-> K^0 eta and B^0-> K^0 eta' decay amplitudes. These corrections may explain why the B-> K eta' branching ratio is about six times larger than the B-> K pi one. Read More

The strongest constraint on Vtb presently comes from the 3 x 3 unitarity of the CKM matrix, which fixes Vtb to be very close to one. If the unitarity is relaxed, current information from top production at Tevatron still leaves open the possibility that Vtb is sizably smaller than one. In minimal extensions of the standard model with extra heavy quarks, the unitarity constraints are much weaker and the EW precision parameters entail the strongest bounds on Vtb. Read More

We investigate the branching ratios and CP asymmetries of the B -> pi pi processes measured in B factory experiments. Fits to the experimental data of this process indicate a large ratio of color-suppressed (C) to color-allowed (T) tree contributions. We investigate whether the large C/T can be explained within the QCD based model computation with i) a large effect from the end-point singularity or with ii) large final-state-interaction phase between two different isospin amplitudes. We investigate the Y(4260) resonance recently discovered by the Babar collaboration. We propose the observation of its decay into J/psi pi pi and its non observation into open charm as a consequence of it being a charmonium hybrid state with a magnetic constituent gluon. We prove a selection rule forbidding its decay into two S-wave charmed mesons in any potential model. Read More

We reconcile the 1/N_c expansion with the observed eta-eta' mass spectrum. The chiral corrections introduced for that purpose are natural and consistent with the octet-singlet mixing angle theta=-(22\pm 1)^{\circ} extracted from phenomenology in the large N_c limit. Read More

We analyze the supersymmetric contributions to the B --> K\pi process. We show that the simultaneous contributions from the penguin diagrams with chargino and gluino in the loop could lead to a possible solution to the B --> K \pi puzzle. Our result indicates that including the stringent constraint from the b --> s \gamma branching ratio, the supersymmeteric models with light right-handed top-squark and large mixing between second and third generation of up and down squarks is the most preferred by the current experimental data. Inclusive $J/\psi$ productions in $e^+ e^-$ annihilation is studied in the framework of NRQCD. We first review the leading-order calculations of the cross sections for $e^+ e^- \to J/\psi c \bar{c}$ and $e^+ e^- \to J/\psi g g$ and find that their ratio is about 1:1.5 at $\sqrt{s}\simeq 10$\gev. We analyse supersymmetric contributions to B_s mixing and their impact on mixing-induced CP asymmetries, using the mass insertion approximation. We discuss in particular the correlation of SUSY effects in the CP asymmetries of B_s -> J/psi phi and B_d -> phi K_S and find that the mass insertions dominant in B_s mixing and B_d -> phi K_S are (delta_{23}^d)_{LL, RR} and (delta_{23}^d)_{LR, RL}, respectively. We show that models with dominant (delta_{23}^d)_{LR, RL} can accomodate a negative value of S_{phi K_S}, in agreement with the BELLE measurement of that observable, but yield a B_s mixing phase too small to be observed. We analyse the CP asymmetry of the B -> phi K_S and B -> eta' K_S processes in general supersymmetric models. We show that chromomagnetic type of operator may play an important role in accounting for the deviation of the mixing CP asymmetry between B -> phi K_S and B -> J/psi K_S processes observed by Belle and BABAR experiments. We also show that due to the different parity in the final states of these processes, their supersymmetric contributions from the R-sector have an opposite sign, which naturally explain the large deviation between their asymmetries. Exclusive quarkonium pair production in electron-positron collisions is studied in non-relativistic QCD. The obtained cross section for J/\psi + \eta_c production in the leading order is confronted against the recent measurements by the Belle Collaboration at KEKB. It is shown that a large renormalization K-factor is necessary to explain the experimental data. Read More

We present a possible supersymmetric solution to the discrepancy between the observed mixing CP asymmetries in B -> \phi K_S and B -> \eta' K_S. We show that due to the different parity in the final states of these processes, their supersymmetric contributions from the R-sector have an opposite sign, which naturally explain the large deviation between S_{\phi K_S} and S_{\eta' K_S}. We also consider the proposed mechanisms to solve the puzzle of the observed large branching ratio of B -> \eta' K and study their impact on S_{eta' K_S}. Read More

B->gamma e nu transitions have recently been studied in the framework of QCD factorization. The attractiveness of this channel for such an analysis lies in the fact that, at least in the heavy quark limit, the only hadron involved is the B meson itself, so one expects a very simple description of the form factor in terms of a convolution of the B meson distribution amplitude with a perturbative kernel. This description, however, does not include contributions suppressed by powers of the b quark mass. Read More

We analyse the CP asymmetry of the B -> phi K_S process in general supersymmetric models. In the framework of the mass insertion approximation, we derive model independent limits for the mixing CP asymmetry. We show that chromomagnetic type of operator may play an important role in accounting for the deviation of the mixing CP asymmetry between B -> phi K_S and B -> J/psi K_S processes observed by Belle and BaBar experiments. We compute B->K eta' branching ratio using perturbative QCD approach. We show that a triangular relation among amplitudes for B^0->K^0 pi^0, B^0->K^0 eta, B^0->K^0 eta' receives large corrections from SU(3) breaking effects. If experimental value will come closer to the lower limit of the present BELLE data there will be a possibility to understand the large branching ratio of B^0->K^0 eta'. Read More

The $\eta'$ which is an $SU(3)_F$ singlet state can contain a pure gluon component, gluonium. We examine this possibility by analysing all available experimental data. It is pointed out that the $\eta'$ gluonic component may be as large as 26%. Read More

We estimate the quantity |f_eta'^(c)| which is associated with the charm content of eta' meson from the experimentally known ratio R=B(psi ->eta' gamma )/B(psi ->eta_c gamma). It is shown that due to the off-shellness of the c\bar c component of eta', which has been overlooked so far, f_eta'^(c) is further suppressed. Assuming that psi ->eta' gamma decay is dominated by psi ->eta_c transition, we obtain |f_eta'^(c)| = 2. Read More

We calculate the branching ratio and direct CP asymmetry in nonleptonic two body B decays B^+- ->\pi^+- \eta'. It is shown that the tree diagram and gluon fusion mechanism via penguin diagram have comparable contributions to these decays which, as a result, could provide an interesting venue for investigating CP violation. Our estimate shows that the direct CP asymmetry in the above decays could be as large as 75% which along with a branching ratio B(B^- ->\pi^- \eta')=3. Read More

We investigate the momentum dependence of the g*-g-eta' vertex form factor in the presence of the nonperturbative QCD vacuum condensate. The behaviour of this form factor is crucial for, among other things, some proposed mechanisms devised to explain the large branching ratio for fast eta' production in charmless B decays observed by CLEO. We show that the leading momentum dependence of this vertex form factor is not altered when the contribution of nonperturbative quark condensate is considered. Read More

We propose a nonspectator mechanism in which eta' is produced by two gluon fusion as the underlying process to explain the inclusive B-> X_s eta' as well as the exclusive B -> K^(*) eta' decays. Read More

We propose a mechanism which can explain the large BR(B-> X_s eta')~ 10^(-3) observed by CLEO. In this mechanism, eta' is produced by the fusion of two gluons, one from QCD penguin b->sg and the other one emitted by the light quark inside the B meson. The inclusive decay rate which is calculated via using the factorization assumption, can easily account for the observed branching ratio. Read More

We calculate the decay rate B-> X_s photon photon via intermediate psuedoscalar charmonium eta_c. This process is thought to be the main long-distance contribution which dominates the corresponding inclusive rare B decay. We point out that once the momentum dependence of eta_c-> photon photon conversion strength, due to off-shellness of the intermediate eta_c, is taken into account, the rate of this decay mode is reduced. We calculate the inclusive decays $B\to X_s\psi$ and $B\to X_s\eta_c$ using factorization assumption. To investigate the bound state effect of the decaying B meson in these inclusive decays we take into account the motion of the $b$ quark using a Gaussian momentum distribution model. The resulting correction to free quark decay approximation is around 6% at most. Read More
