We investigate a magnetic domain-wall (DW) motion in two dynamic regimes, creep and flow regimes, near the angular momentum compensation temperature (T_A) of ferrimagnet. In the flow regime, the DW speed shows sharp increase at T_A due to the emergence of antiferromagnetic DW dynamics. In the creep regime, however, the DW speed exhibits a monotonic increase with increasing the temperature. Read More

Recently, several authors have studied the Stirling numbers of the second kind and Bell polynomials. In this paper, we study the extended Stirling polynomials of the second kind and the extended Bell polynomials associated with the Stirling numbers of the second kind. In addition, we note that the extended Bell polynomials can be expressed in terms of the moments of the Poisson random variable with parameter Read More

We present the results of very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observations of gamma-ray bright blazar S5 0716+714 using the Korean VLBI Network (KVN) at the 22, 43, 86, and 129 GHz bands, as part of the Interferometric Monitoring of Gamma-ray Bright AGNs (iMOGABA) KVN key science program. Observations were conducted in 29 sessions from January 16, 2013 to March 1, 2016, with the source being detected and imaged at all available frequencies. In all epochs, the source was compact on the milliarcsecond (mas) scale, yielding a compact VLBI core dominating the synchrotron emission on these scales. Read More

We report a study of the decay $D^0 \to K^0_S K^0_S$ using 921~fb$^{-1}$ of data collected at or near the $\Upsilon(4S)$ and $\Upsilon(5S)$ resonances with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. The measured time-integrated CP asymmetry is $ A_{CP}(D^0 \to K^0_S K^0_S) = (-0.02 \pm 1. Read More

We have carried out bulk-sensitive hard x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (HAXPES) measurements on in situ cleaved and ex-situ polished SmB6 single crystals. Using the multiplet-structure in the Sm 3d core level spectra, we obtained reliably the valence number of Sm in bulk SmB6 to be close to 2.54 at ~5 K. Read More

The ordering wave vector $\mathbf{Q}$ of a spin density wave (SDW), stabilized within the superconducting state of $\mathrm{CeCoIn_5}$ in a high magnetic field, has been shown to be hypersensitive to the direction of the field. $\mathbf{Q}$ can be switched from a nodal direction of the $d$-wave superconducting order parameter to a perpendicular node by rotating the in-plane magnetic field through the antinodal direction within a fraction of a degree. Here, we address the dynamics of the switching of $\mathbf{Q}$. Read More

In halo dark matter axion search experiments, cylindrical microwave cavities are typically employed to detect signals from the axion-photon conversion. To enhance the conversion power and reduce the noise level, cavities are placed in strong solenoid magnetic fields at sufficiently low temperatures. Exploring high mass regions in cavity-based axion search experiments requires high frequency microwave cavities and thus understanding cavity properties at high frequencies in extreme conditions is deemed necessary. We consider the flow in direction $\theta$ on a translation surface and we study the asymptotic behavior for $r\to 0$ of the time needed by orbits to hit the $r$-neighborhood of a prescribed point, or more precisely the exponent of the corresponding power law, which is known as \emph{hitting time}. For flat tori the limsup of hitting time is equal to the diophantine type of the direction $\theta$. In higher genus, we consider an extended geometric notion of diophantine type of a direction $\theta$ and we seek for relations with hitting time. Read More

We describe Springer fibers corresponding to the minimal and minimal special nilpotent orbits of simple Lie algebras. As a result, we give an answer to the conjecture of Humphreys regarding some graphs attached to Springer fibers. Read More

We present the results of a {\it Hubble Space Telescope} ACS/HRC FUV, ACS/WFC optical study into the cluster populations of a sample of 22 Luminous Infrared Galaxies in the Great Observatories All-Sky LIRG Survey. Through integrated broadband photometry we have derived ages and masses for a total of 484 star clusters contained within these systems. This allows us to examine the properties of star clusters found in the extreme environments of LIRGs relative to lower luminosity star-forming galaxies in the local Universe. Read More

We prove weighted $L_{p,q}$-estimates for divergence type higher order elliptic and parabolic systems with irregular coefficients on Reifenberg flat domains. In particular, in the parabolic case the coefficients do not have any regularity assumptions in the time variable. As functions of the spatial variables, the leading coefficients are permitted to have small mean oscillations. Read More

Parallaxes for 331 classical Cepheids, 31 Type II Cepheids and 364 RR Lyrae stars in common between Gaia and the Hipparcos and Tycho-2 catalogues are published in Gaia Data Release 1 (DR1) as part of the Tycho-Gaia Astrometric Solution (TGAS). In order to test these first parallax measurements of the primary standard candles of the cosmological distance ladder, that involve astrometry collected by Gaia during the initial 14 months of science operation, we compared them with literature estimates and derived new period-luminosity ($PL$), period-Wesenheit ($PW$) relations for classical and Type II Cepheids and infrared $PL$, $PL$-metallicity ($PLZ$) and optical luminosity-metallicity ($M_V$-[Fe/H]) relations for the RR Lyrae stars, with zero points based on TGAS. The new relations were computed using multi-band ($V,I,J,K_{\mathrm{s}},W_{1}$) photometry and spectroscopic metal abundances available in the literature, and applying three alternative approaches: (i) by linear least squares fitting the absolute magnitudes inferred from direct transformation of the TGAS parallaxes, (ii) by adopting astrometric-based luminosities, and (iii) using a Bayesian fitting approach. In most of modern enterprise systems, redundancy configuration is often considered to provide availability during the part of such systems is being patched. However, the redundancy may increase the attack surface of the system. In this paper, we model and assess the security and capacity oriented availability of multiple server redundancy designs when applying security patches to the servers. Read More

In chiral magnetic materials, numerous intriguing phenomena such as built in chiral magnetic domain walls (DWs) and skyrmions are generated by the Dzyaloshinskii Moriya interaction (DMI). The DMI also results in asymmetric DW speed under in plane magnetic field, which provides a useful scheme to measure the DMI strengths. However, recent findings of additional asymmetries such as chiral damping have disenabled unambiguous DMI determination and the underlying mechanism of overall asymmetries becomes under debate. Chiral magnetic materials provide a number of challenging issues such as the highly efficient domain wall (DW) and skyrmion motions driven by electric current, as of the operation principles of emerging spintronic devices. The DWs in the chiral materials exhibit asymmetric DW speed variation under application of in plane magnetic field. Here, we show that such DW speed asymmetry causes the DW tilting during the motion along wire structure. Read More

In this paper, we study degenerate ordered Bell polynomials with the viewpoint of Carlitz's degenerate Bernoulli and Euler polynomials and derive by using umbral calculus some properties and new identities for the degenerate ordered Bell polynomials associated with special polynomials. Read More

We have carried out a systematic search for recoiling supermassive black holes (rSMBH) using the Chandra Source and SDSS Cross Matched Catalog. From the survey, we have detected a potential rSMBH, 'CXO J101527.2+625911' at z=0. Read More

We investigate the partition function zeros of the two-dimensional p-state clock model in the complex temperature plane by using the Wang-Landau sampling of the density of states. We find that at the higher-temperature transition, the leading Fisher zeros fall on a common trajectory when $p \ge 6$ that agrees with the behavior in the $XY$ limit. On the other hand, the behavior of the leading zeros of $p=5$ differs from that of the larger $p$, although with ambiguity due to the small system sizes accessible. Read More

The purpose of this paper is to give some symmetric identities of higher-order degenerate Euler polynomials derived from the symmetric properties of the multivariate p-adic fermionic integrals on Zp. Read More

X-ray tomography has been studied in various fields. Although a great deal of effort has been directed at reconstructing the projection image set from a rigid-type specimen, little attention has been addressed to the reconstruction of projected images from an object showing elastic motion. Here, we present a mathematical solution to reconstruct the projection image set obtained from an object with specific elastic motions: periodically, regularly, and elliptically expanded or contracted specimens. This paper introduces a blind watermarking based on a convolutional neural network (CNN). We propose an iterative learning framework to secure robustness of watermarking. One loop of learning process consists of the following three stages: Watermark embedding, attack simulation, and weight update. Read More

Chiral spin textures at the interface between ferromagnetic and heavy nonmagnetic metals, such as Neel-type domain walls and skyrmions, have been studied intensively because of their great potential for future nanomagnetic devices. The Dyzaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) is an essential phenomenon for the formation of such chiral spin textures. In spite of recent theoretical progress aiming at understanding the microscopic origin of the DMI, an experimental investigation unravelling the physics at stake is still required. Read More

Collective cell migration is a hallmark of developmental and patho-physiological states, including wound healing and invasive cancer growth. The integrity of the expanding epithelial sheets can be influenced by extracellular cues, including cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. We show the nano-scale topography of the extracellular matrix underlying epithelial cell layers can have a strong effect on the speed and morphology of the fronts of the expanding sheet triggering epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). We propose a vision-based method that localizes a ground vehicle using publicly available satellite imagery as the only prior knowledge of the environment. Our approach takes as input a sequence of ground-level images acquired by the vehicle as it navigates, and outputs an estimate of the vehicle's pose relative to a georeferenced satellite image. We overcome the significant viewpoint and appearance variations between the images through a neural multi-view model that learns location-discriminative embeddings in which ground-level images are matched with their corresponding satellite view of the scene. During 2015 the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) provided collisions of transversely polarized protons with Au and Al nuclei for the first time, enabling the exploration of transverse-single-spin asymmetries with heavy nuclei. Large single-spin asymmetries in very forward neutron production have been previously observed in transversely polarized $p$$+$$p$ collisions at RHIC, and the existing theoretical framework that was successful in describing the single-spin asymmetry in $p$$+$$p$ collisions predicts only a moderate atomic-mass-number ($A$) dependence. In contrast, the asymmetries observed at RHIC in $p$$+$$A$ collisions showed a surprisingly strong $A$ dependence in inclusive forward neutron production. Read More

We propose a novel 3D face recognition algorithm using a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) and a 3D augmentation technique. The performance of 2D face recognition algorithms has significantly increased by leveraging the representational power of deep neural networks and the use of large-scale labeled training data. As opposed to 2D face recognition, training discriminative deep features for 3D face recognition is very difficult due to the lack of large-scale 3D face datasets. Read More

We outline a general framework to use coordinated multi-point (CoMP) transmission technology in downlink multi-cell non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) systems considering distributed power allocation at each cell. In this framework, CoMP transmission is used for users experiencing strong receive-signals from multiple cells while each cell adopts NOMA for resource allocation to its active users. After a brief review of the working principles of different CoMP schemes, we identify their applicability and necessary conditions for their use in downlink multi-cell NOMA system. Read More

The cross section and transverse single-spin asymmetries of $\mu^{-}$ and $\mu^{+}$ from open heavy-flavor decays in polarized $p$+$p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV were measured by the PHENIX experiment during 2012 at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Because heavy-flavor production is dominated by gluon-gluon interactions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV, these measurements offer a unique opportunity to obtain information on the trigluon correlation functions. The measurements are performed at forward and backward rapidity ($1. Read More

We present a new "completed event" microlensing event-finder algorithm and apply it to the 2015 Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet) data. The algorithm works by making linear fits to a (t0,teff,u0) grid of point-lens microlensing models. This approach is rendered computationally efficient by restricting u0 to just two values (0 and 1), which we show is quite adequate. Read More

We consider SUSY-like events with two decay chains, each terminating in an invisible particle, whose true energy and momentum are not measured in the detector. Nevertheless, a useful educated guess about the invisible momenta can still be obtained by optimizing a suitable invariant mass function. We review and contrast several proposals in the literature for such ansatze: four versions of the M_T2-assisted on-shell reconstruction (MAOS), as well as several variants of the on-shell constrained M_2 variables. We analyze the single microlensing event OGLE-2015-BLG-1482 simultaneously observed from two ground-based surveys and from \textit{Spitzer}. The \textit{Spitzer} data exhibit finite-source effects due to the passage of the lens close to or directly over the surface of the source star as seen from \textit{Spitzer}. Such finite-source effects generally yield measurements of the angular Einstein radius, which when combined with the microlens parallax derived from a comparison between the ground-based and the \textit{Spitzer} light curves, yields the lens mass and lens-source relative parallax. We report the first measurement of the $T$-odd moments in the decay $D^{0} \rightarrow K_{S}^{0} \pi^{+} \pi^{-} \pi^{0}$ from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $966\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$ collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. From these moments we determine the $CP$-violation-sensitive asymmetry $a_{CP}^{T\text{-odd}} = \left[-0.28 \pm 1. Read More

First-order methods with momentum such as Nesterov's fast gradient method (FGM) are very useful for convex optimization problems, but can exhibit undesirable oscillations yielding slow convergence for some applications. An adaptive restarting scheme can improve the convergence rate of FGM, when the parameter of a strongly convex cost function is unknown or when the iterates of the algorithm enter a locally well-conditioned region. Recently, we introduced an optimized gradient method (OGM), a first-order algorithm that has an inexpensive per-iteration computational cost similar to that of FGM, yet has a worst-case cost function convergence bound that is twice smaller than that of FGM and that is optimal for large-dimensional smooth convex problems. One of the goals of 5G wireless systems stated by the NGMN alliance is to provide moderate rates (50+ Mbps) everywhere and with very high reliability. We term this service Ultra-Reliable Ubiquitous-Rate Communication (UR2C). This paper investigates the role of frequency reuse in supporting UR2C in the downlink. Read More

By using the known operator product expansions (OPEs) between the lowest $16$ higher spin currents of spins $(1, \frac{3}{2}, \frac{3}{2}, \frac{3}{2}, \frac{3}{2}, 2,2,2,2,2,2, \frac{5}{2}, \frac{5}{2}, \frac{5}{2}, \frac{5}{2}, 3)$ in an extension of the large ${\cal N}=4$ linear superconformal algebra, one determines the OPEs between the lowest $16$ higher spin currents in an extension of the large ${\cal N}=4$ nonlinear superconformal algebra for generic $N$ and $k$. The Wolf space coset contains the group $G =SU(N+2)$ and the affine Kac-Moody spin $1$ current has the level $k$. The next $16$ higher spin currents of spins $(2,\frac{5}{2}, \frac{5}{2}, \frac{5}{2}, \frac{5}{2}, 3,3,3,3,3,3, \frac{7}{2}, \frac{7}{2}, \frac{7}{2}, \frac{7}{2},4)$ arise in the above OPEs. In this paper, we describe CoMP2flex, a user-centric base station (BS) cooperation scheme that provides improvements in reliability of both uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) communications of wireless cellular networks. CoMP2flex supports not only cooperation of two BSs with same direction of traffic but also cooperation of two BSs serving bidirectional traffic. The reliability performance of CoMP2flex is shown with numerical simulations and analytical expressions. Read More

In the increasing interests on spin-orbit torque (SOT) with various magnetic materials, we investigated SOT in rare earth-transition metal ferrimagnetic alloys. The harmonic Hall measurements were performed in Pt/GdFeCo bilayers to quantify the effective fields resulting from the SOT. It is found that the damping-like torque rapidly increases near the magnetization compensation temperature TM of the GdFeCo, which is attributed to the reduction of the net magnetic moment. A measurement of the inclusive production cross section of isolated prompt photons in proton-antiproton collisions at center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$=1.96TeV is presented. The results are obtained using the full Run II data sample collected with the Collider Detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9. Read More
